Thank you—we cannot express enough gratitude for your generous and swift support of the Morocco Earthquake Relief Fund. Your donation is already aiding the emergency work of GlobalGiving nonprofit partners. GlobalGiving is making an initial round of emergency grants today to six vetted partners in Morocco advancing life-saving work on the front lines of earthquake response.

The situation remains dire. The earthquake and subsequent aftershocks devastated communities, towns, and villages in several provinces in and around the High Atlas Mountains. Rural and remote communities have been especially hard hit. Tragically, at least 2,900 people have been killed and thousands severely injured. Homes and livelihoods have been destroyed. And search and rescue efforts are sadly coming to an end. The full scale of loss is still unknown as information continues to come in, especially from hard-to-reach communities.

Amid this extensive tragedy, vetted GlobalGiving nonprofit partners are bringing hope. Here is a snapshot of some of the critical work your donation is already supporting:

  • Education for All Morocco is a trusted organization that has served girls from rural and remote areas of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains for 17 years. It runs six boarding houses that serve more than 250 girls per year. Tragically, all six boarding houses have been severely damaged or destroyed. Five out of the six now need to be demolished and rebuilt. The girls the organization serves have lost family members and entire villages to the earthquake. The organization is committed to providing direct aid and assistance to the girls and alumni of its programs and also rebuilding its boarding houses.
  • The High Atlas Foundation has supported communities in the High Atlas Mountains for more than 20 years in the areas of sustainable agriculture, education, human rights, and intercultural dialogue. Since the earthquake, the organization has been in direct contact with many of the communities it has served over the past two decades to get direct life-saving aid into their hands. It has already reached more than a dozen villages and served more than 1,000 families with emergency aid items and urgent medical assistance in Al Haouz, the hardest-hit province, and beyond.
  • Jood NGO is an organization with nearly 10 years of experience serving homeless community members in five cities across Morocco. Following the earthquake and aftershocks, the organization mobilized its trusted networks to get emergency relief items, including meals, blankets, tents, and mattresses, to places like Adassil, a town very close to the epicenter of the earthquake.

The need remains enormous for communities across all affected areas in Morocco. Our partners will remain hard at work during this tragic time—and so will we. We will continue to make additional rounds of emergency grants to our trusted partner community to meet critical needs. We will also share more updates with you via email as our partners continue to advance community-led disaster relief and recovery. You can find a full list of GlobalGiving nonprofit partners that have received grants so far from the Morocco Earthquake Relief Fund at the end of this report.

Thank you again for your generous support. It will continue to make a difference for the people of Morocco in the critical days, weeks, and months to come. We look forward to updating you again soon on the ongoing impact of your gift.

With immense gratitude,

Chase + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
