Global Diversity Foundation

GDF has a dual mission. Through our regional programmes, we support indigenous peoples' and local communities' efforts to protect their biocultural diversity, and peacefully achieve just and autonomous decision-making regarding their territories, resources and futures. In collaboration with diverse institutions, we provide support for communities to elaborate their own research, development and advocacy programmes. Areas of specific focus depend on community interests, although they tend to be community access to lands and resources, community-led conservation, advocacy and campaigning for social and environmental justice, the continuity of ethnobiological and biocultural knowledge...
Help Communities in Borneo Protect their Heritage

This project empowers indigenous communities to participate in preserving their heritage by strengthening their defense against competing global priorities for resources and defending their rights as original inhabitants of their ancestral lands. It supports community-based initiatives: the strengthening of a formal community-led body to plan and implement activities to promote the biocultural heritage of Ulu Papar, and the completion of a base for community-led activities. project reportread updates from the field
Support 100 Global Emerging Environmental Leaders

The Global Environments Network supports emerging changemakers by promoting peer-to-peer learning and communication skills training. Working from local to global scales, these leaders draw on superb academic backgrounds and inspiring field experiences to develop practical actions - often out of the public eye - that improve local livelihoods, resolve conflicts and restore environments. These inspiring efforts are benefiting their communities, their countries and the world as a whole. project reportread updates from the field
Benefit 700 Moroccan girls through school gardens

After restoring underused grounds of urban schools in Marrakech, GDF is expanding its efforts to rural schools in the foothills of the High Atlas mountains, where girls are learning about gardens, cultural heritage and environmental stewardship. We are focusing on Dar Taliba, a boarding house in the Ourika Valley that provides an opportunity for 120 teenage girls per year to continue their formal studies while acquiring knowledge about the traditional use of plants from their elders. project reportread updates from the field
