Mitigation of COVID-19 in indigenous communities

In Mexico, there has been hopeful progress in the vaccination against the COVID-19 disease; however, the number of infections has increased in the last few days, making it essential to continue reinforcing and applying health recommendations to take care of ourselves and our families.

During the last few months, we have made progress in:

Constantly informing the women's groups we work with by avoiding rumors and misinformation among the communities and/or locality they belong to, reinforcing COVID-19 prevention measures and encouraging them to get vaccinated.
We delivered a basic package of personal and household hygiene supplies to a group of women.
Provided technical accompaniment and advice on the design and management of backyard gardens.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected families in the municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas. We carry out all our activities with strict adherence to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health to maintain the safety and integrity of our target groups and the team itself.

Thank you for your support, all of this would not have been possible without your support. We appreciate the trust you have placed in our project and our work. You keep us in the constant struggle to make changes in the lives of hundreds of families in the Lacandon Jungle.

We continue working for the communities.

In these first months of 2021, it was announced that in Mexico the inhabitants of the country would begin to be vaccinated, beginning in this first stage with health employees and senior citizens. However, this process will take some time to reach all the inhabitants of our country.

That is why, thanks to the collaboration we received through this project, we have continued with our activities, bringing to the families of the indigenous communities of the municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas, cleaning packages and reusable face masks so that they can continue carrying out their activities with the care recommended by the health authorities.

We share that during the delivery of the cleaning packages, the team tried to comply with the recommended prevention measures.

Seguimos trabajando para las comunidades.

En estos primeros meses del 2021, se anunció que en México se comenzaría a vacunar a los habitantes del país, comenzando en esta primera etapa con empleados de la salud y adultos mayores de la tercera edad. Sin embargo este proceso tomará un tiempo para poder llegar hacia todos los habitantes de nuestro país.

 Es por ello que gracias a la colaboración que recibimos a través de este proyecto, hemos continuado con la realización de nuestras actividades, llevando a las familias de las comunidades indígenas del municipio de Ocosingo, Chiapas, paquetes de limpieza y cubrebocas reutilizables para que puedan seguir realizando sus actividades con los cuidados recomendados por las autoridades de salud.

 Compartimos que durante la entrega de los paquetes de limpieza, el equipo procuró cumplir con las medidas de prevención recomendadas.

We do not lower our guard against COVID19.

We are grateful once again that you continue to add to the work we carry out through our project, to bring to families in remote communities of the municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas, cleaning and protection supplies, for the prevention of the new coronavirus.

• We have delivered cleaning kits and reusable face masks to 20 families in the neighborhoods of the municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas, Santa Cruz and Ixtapa Mirador.
• A monitoring of the kit of seeds delivered to families has been carried out, which already have production of vegetables and species for family consumption and more deliveries have been made to new families.
• We distribute more brochures and flyers on how to prevent the spread of COVID19, the proper use and washing of the mask.

During the delivery of the kits, as well as the monitoring of the family gardens, the team sought to comply with the recommended prevention measures.

No bajamos la guarda ante la COVID19.

Agradecemos una vez más, que se sigan sumando al trabajo que realizamos a través de nuestro proyecto, para llevar a las familias de comunidades lejanas del municipio de Ocosingo, Chiapas, suministros de limpieza y protección, para la prevención del nuevo coronavirus.

• Hemos entregado kits de limpieza y cubrebocas reutilizable a 20 familias, de los barrios del municipio de Ocosingo, Chiapas, Santa Cruz e Ixtapa Mirador.
• Se ha realizado un monitoreo del kit de semillas entregadas a las familias, las cuales ya cuentan con producción de vegetales y especies para el consumo familiar y se han realizado más entregas a las nuevas familias.
• Repartimos más folletos y volantes sobre cómo prevenir el contagio de la COVID19, el uso y lavado adecuado del cubreboca.

Durante la entrega de los kit’s, al igual que el seguimiento de los huertos familiares, el equipo buscó cumplir con las medidas de prevención recomendadas.

COVID19 relief for families in Ocosingo, Chiapas

COVID19 has come to change the lives of all people in the world, but indigenous communities are the most affected by this type of pandemic, the lack of access to basic services such as health, drinking water and information, make it more difficult for they.

Thanks to the donations that we have received to our cause in these months of contingency, we have supported families in the Lacandon jungle with cleaning and protection supplies so that they can use them in their daily lives.

In these months during the collection time it has been achieved:

• Deliver a kit of reusable mouth covers and cleaning supplies to 40 families in the communities of Patathe, las Tazas, San Miguel and Atotonilco, in the municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas.
• Give a seed kit to each family with various species of short-cycle vegetables.
• Print informative brochures on prevention measures and avoiding the spread of the virus, as well as the correct use and care of the reusable mouth cover.

It should be noted that during the delivery of supplies we seek to comply with the recommended prevention measures, as well as invite families to do the same.

Alivio del COVID19 para familias de Ocosingo, Chiapas

La COVID19 ha venido a cambiar la vida de todas las personas en el mundo, pero las comunidades indígenas son las más afectadas ante este tipo de pandemias, la falta acceso a servicios básico como salud, agua potable e información, hacen que sea más difícil para ellos.

Gracias a las donaciones que hemos recibido a nuestra causa en estos meses de contingencia, hemos apoyado a familias de la selva lacandona con suministros de limpieza y protección, para que puedan utilizarlos en su vida cotidiana.

En estos meses durante el tiempo de recaudación se ha logrado:

• Entregar un kit de cubre-bocas reutilizables y artículos de limpieza a 40 familias de las comunidades de Patathe, las Tazas, San Miguel y Atotonilco, del municipio de Ocosingo, Chiapas.
• Entregar un kit de semillas a cada familia con diversas especies de vegetales de ciclo corto.
• Imprimir folletos informativos sobre las medidas de prevención y evitar el contagio del virus, al igual que el uso correcto y cuidados del cubre-boca reutilizable.

Cabe resaltar que durante la entrega de los insumos buscamos cumplir con las medidas de prevención recomendadas, al igual que invitar a las familias a realizar lo mismo.

De nuevo, gracias por ser parte y que así podamos aportar a las familias que más lo necesitan lo necesario para sobre llevar la pandemia.
