This project will provide reusable pads and toiletries to 1531 Internally Displaced women and girls (IDPs) in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon. Training on how to produce reusable pads and head to head sensitization of IDPs on menstrual hygiene management in conflict zones will be organised to overcome menstrual frustration and stigma
3 million persons are affected by the conflict in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon (OCHA, Dec 2020). 60% of those affected are women and Girls (IDPs) frustrated during menstruation due to poverty and lack of sanitary pads. Most IDP Girls miss 4 to 7 school days monthly and women highly stigmatized during menses. These IDPs resort to the use of dangerous objects like leaves, rags to overcome menstrual shame. This project targets about 1531 IDPs affected by the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon
CEFONEV provides reusable pads and toiletries to IDPs. Some of the IDPs are trained on the production and marketing of reusable pads to increase affordability and availability. Seminars and educative talks on menstrual hygiene management are organised to provide the IDPs with insights on their menstrual cycles. We encourage beneficiaries to disseminate the knowledge learnt with others. Community leaders, men and boys are encouraged to empathize with girls and women during menstruation.
This project will restore the dignity and livelihood of 1531 menstruating Internally Displaced women and girls in the conflict hit Anglophone Zones of Cameroon through the provision of reusable sanitary pads, toiletries and sensitization campaigns on menstrual hygiene management thus boasting their school attendance, improving their health as well as their well-being
