Through the case we present you will see the importance of working in a holistic way. This girl from the southern area of Cochabamba is receiving the medicines she needs, thanks to your donation. However, whith this report you will better understand the work we do to include children with disabilities to the community.
Her Diagnosis: Down syndrome, cardiac malformation (operated 2017), right hemiparesis, epilepsy, hypothyroidism and psychomotor developmental delay. Luciana was registered with us on April 16, 2019 and work began at approximately late April with physiotherapy.
Luciana was once a very timid child, as were the family because in the area people, families tend to distrust most outside help that is free because they think they will have to repay them or that there is a “catch.”
We make an intervention plan that has worked and to date we can see big changes. She has a good cervical control, can sit without support, crawls with slight difficulty but does crawl. We also see that her right hand has better functionality she doesn’t ball it into a fist anymore, can extend her palm up to 80%, and can stand without support.
There have been great improvements in acceptance of the staff of Tukuy Pacha, to myself as a therapist and the volunteer I work with. She is also no longer shy we have won great affection and tenderness with her.
