Empowering Rural Children through Media Literacy

By Sameena Shaikh | Executive - Donor Relations

                                                          Second Quarter Highlights

Media Arts Team in Kuppam:

A workshop was recently conducted at Pragna Innovative School in Kuppam, focusing on the captivating topic of Stories of Kuppam Town. This engaging session was attended by 7th-grade students, who were eager to delve into the rich history and tales of their beloved town.

Additionally, an enthralling photography exhibition was held at the same school, showcasing the artistic talents of the students.

Furthermore, we have been actively organizing teacher sessions and on-campus camps, recognizing the importance of providing educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to inspire their students. These sessions aim to create a dynamic and stimulating learning environment, fostering a love for learning among the students.

Kalakootami Program:

In the last academic year, we successfully conducted a remarkable program called Kalakootami at ZPHS, Dandikuppam, a local school. This program served as a magnet, attracting children from nearby schools, along with teachers and community members. The event witnessed the participation of 47 young instructors, 1235 children, and 25 teachers, making it a truly inclusive and vibrant fair. Kalakootami was a celebration of talent and creativity, bringing together various schools and community members. It provided a platform for children to showcase their unique abilities and express their creativity. Additionally, the photography exhibition at Pragna Innovative School was a visual feast, allowing students to capture and convey their thoughts and emotions through the lens. We firmly believe in the power of interactive workshops and sessions to engage students and nurture their love for learning. Through these activities, we aim to create a stimulating and enriching environment for students to explore their interests and develop their skills. Looking ahead, we are determined to expand our outreach and organize more events that promote creativity, cultural exchange, and community involvement. Our commitment lies in making a positive impact on the lives of students, empowering them to become confident and well-rounded individuals.

In this quarter, we are on our MediaArts program journey for the 2023-24 academic year, encompassing five schools. Equipped with fresh workbooks and renewed enthusiasm, we set out to make a lasting impact on the children through engaging MediaArts activities.

School Sessions:

In the month of July, we selected five schools for cohort-1 and we started our sessions with 186 children. Below are the details of the schools and exposures:

 1. DNTW Gudikothur School - 652 exposures were provided for 42 students.

2. ZPHS, C. Bandapalli - 446 exposures were provided for 30 students.

3. Kuppam, GHS - 734 exposures were provided for 44 students.

4. DNTW, Somapuram - 714 exposures were provided for 44 students.

5. MPUPS, Bisanatham - 438 exposures were provided for 30 students.

In total, we have provided 2,984 exposures for 186 students.

Additionally, we conducted day-long visits for children from 30 schools around Agastya's Campus Creativity Lab in Andhra Pradesh. Our efforts have resulted in a total of 1,664 exposures, benefiting a total of 843 students. Each exposure has been meticulously curated to offer valuable learning opportunities and expand the horizons of these young minds. This incredible journey of knowledge and growth took place from July to September 2023.

Productions and Aha! Katha

Over 160 productions were created by children in the first year of the program, including videos, photo stories and storybooks. A select few of these have been compiled in Aha! Katha.
