Project Report | Mar 6, 2018
Opening new doors

By Jaya Chandrayan | Project Officer

Hi,

Hope you are doing well !

Our arts and creativity fair, Kala Kootami, has always aimed at creating a unique and an interactive platform for government school students to display their innovative and imaginative works in the field of media, arts, photography, films and library. Every year, thousands of children participate to create and share ideas with their peers, teachers and visitors, in turn gathering an unforgettable experience.

Our latest edition of the fair yet again was a creative celebration of the convergence of our MediaArts, Arts and Library programs. Organised for the first time in Gurugram, Haryana on the 24th and 25th of January 2018 with the support of Sapient, this edition of the fair witnessed the participation of over 1,300 children from over 6 schools across the city.

The fair begins with a walk-through of exciting and eccentric displays and exhibits crafted by the children of Agastya, giving an insight into the world of Media Arts, Arts and Library. As our trained YILs explain the artworks and the process involved in making them, the visiting children gain a better understanding and are in turn inspired to pursue creating these artworks back at their homes or schools.

The children took up the responsibility of capturing the precious moments of the fair. Each were equipped with handy-cams and cameras and were given the creative freedom to shoot videos and click photographs that best conveyed the essence of Kala Kootami.

Many events and activities bedecked the fair where the children along with the instructors created out-of-the-box artworks such as puppet shows, pottery making, photography, thread paintings and much more.

“I loved coming and participating in the fair. I especially loved learning about the different waysin which we can use waste resources to create beautiful works of art, which we would otherwise throw it away at home. I would like to thank Agastya International Foundation for this opportunity.”- Mannu, Govt. Senior Secondary School, Basai, Gurugram, Haryana
