This project will empower youth in S. Africa by creating a restaurant for Maria. Maria Gaba runs an orphanage and youth she cares for will learn business skills and a way to support themselves in the future. She has a desire to grow food and works with Jhoanny spearhead a training program where youth will learn the ins and outs of opening a restaurant. Funds raised will provide the cost of opening the business, purchase needed equipment and hire staff. Profits will help support Marias House.
Women of color across the U.S. and especially in developing countries lack the capital, access of training, information and connections to be able to create a business for themselves that will generate income and generational wealth within their family. Maria takes care of dozens of children who in her home have safety and have their basic needs met with resources she has been acquiring through the generosity of others. Maria has always wanted to grow food and have sustainable ways of providing.
Maria has accepted an online mentoring program by Jhoanny the coach who has experience opening restaurants and mentoring others in creating this type of business. Furthermore, Maria has rapport with this volunteer because they worked together in 2015 and 2016 on two different mission trips led by Airline Ambassadors International. This training program will guide Maria into looking for a space, acquiring licenses, food safety training, administrative skills and operations skills.
This project has a long term impact and sustainability component in that it will provide working skills not only for Maria but also for the youth who are of any age to enter the workforce. It will bring local economic impact for the community, jobs and provide food and income for her household. This business can also be passed on to her daughter and next generations.
