Malaria attacks 6 million people in Malawi per year. School children are largely affected. Many parents are poor to afford nets and drugs that treat malaria. As a result, there are high number of child deaths and school absenteeism that has an impact on literacy levels of the country. The project will target 2,000 school going children in Chiradzulu and Thyolo districts in Malawi.
Parents and children will have knowledge and skills in malaria prevention through sensitization. The project will then buy and distribute anti-malaria drugs and mosquito nets to children and their families. The households will also be spread with drugs that kill mosquitos.
The project will reduce incidences of malaria and save lives of 2,000 children. In the process children's health will be improved. The project will increase school attendance of children. With good school attendance, child literacy will be improved thereby positively impacting on Malawi economy.
