We had a fabulous visit to the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center in Nakuru, Kenya last November when we - a group of 10 LLK members and sponsors - were able to festively open the doors of the new classroom - you can see that in the link below. For the 3rd graders in the upcoming school year, which begins on January 4th, the classroom is a dream come true. I have never seen such high-quality classrooms anywhere else in Kenya. Running water, tiled floors, electricity, desks and chairs for ONLY 30 children in a classroom (as opposed to the public schools with up to 100 children in a class) - what more could child's heart ask for? The teachers are as high-quality as the rest of the school and have proven it this past year by bringing the LLK Primary School to the 2nd best in the region of 35 public and private schools. We're aiming for number 1 this coming school year. We're providing funds for high-quality teaching materials as well.
Four more elementary school classrooms still need to be built – along with the attached administration offices and teacher's staff room. We are hoping for enough donations to be able to start construction for the 5th classroom in March or April 2016 so that it is completed by October. Our dream is to have the funds to build at least two classrooms this year.
When the 8 classrooms are completed we will begin the construction the three kindergarten classrooms, a dining hall and a kitchen will be the next two construction phases. We have a long way to go, but with the continuous and generous donations, we are well on our way to success. Children who would have otherwise lived in the streets of Nakuru are now under the best pupils in the region - thanks to the generous donations. Please keep them coming!
With a donation of $1000 or more your chosen name or firm's name will be placed on a porcelain plaque on the wall outside of the classroom - and if the price of the classroom construction is donated - $22.000 - you can dedicate the classroom - and live (almost) forever!
