Dear Donor,

Thanks to your generosity in 2016, we are already shipping books to 15 of our 50 day care partners in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. We need your help to donate 3,900 books to all 50 day cares by August 2016.

On June 15, GlobalGiving is matching 50% of all donations (up to $1,000). As an added incentive, I am personally matching 50% of all donations. That's right...

On June 15, your donation is matched 100% = $15 provides $30 worth of books to 10 children (age 0-5) living in poverty in NYC.

Word Rebel is proud to be a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit. That means 100% of your tax-deductible donation is used to donate books. We believe strongly in our mission, and we greatly appreciate your support, which is why we don't waste a single dollar on non-programming costs.

Forward this email to 15 friends, donate $15, change 10 lives on Wednesday, June 15.

Mark your calendar: Donate $15 on June 15 to change 10 lives.

Sincerely,

Lauren Martin

Want to know more?

Did you know that the single most effective way to help a child graduate from high school on time is to teach them 1,100 words before preschool? This is true regardless of parent income, education, or access to quality schools. The achievement gap in education begins with a vocabulary gap between low and high-income preschool students. By preschool, the average high-income child knows 1,100 words while the typical low-income child knows only 500. This 600-word deficit will become a 15,000-word deficit by high school, leaving low-income students four years behind and five times more likely to dropout. We target low-income children before they enter preschool to close the achievement gap before it starts.

How do we keep parents reading 365 days a year?

Every book is donated alongside a free subscription to our weekly email-text service to ensure parents engage in daily reading and vocabulary activities 365 days a year. Every single week, parents receive three downloadable books and three actionable strategies to teach vocabulary and reading skills during daily routines. Now, hard working parents can build a culture of literacy in just 5 minutes a day. Families living below the poverty line now hold the key to academic success - in the palm of their hands!

Dear Donor,

Thank you so much for your generous contribution. Because of you, we have successfully distributed books to 3,500 children attending 50 partnering day cares in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. These day cares provide free and subsidized care to low-income children from 0 - 5 years old. Thanks to you, all 3,500 children now have their very own oversized, hard cover Disney Collection, containing 20 Disney Classic Stories (as seen in the attached images).

Recent and future contributions to Word Rebel's project are being used to provide books for the 2016 school year. Every $3 now provides 1 high-quality book. With your continued support, we are on track to raise $10,000  to donate 3,500 books by August 2016.

Thanks to you, Word Rebel continues to engage parents in daily reading and vocabulary activities to ensure every child starts preschool with the language skills they need to succeed. Every week, we send a literacy email containing three e-books, daily vocabulary words, a tip to teach vocabulary, and a reading comprehension question aligned to common-core standards. Now, hard working parents can build a culture of literacy in just 5 minutes a day. By sending books and reading skills straight to parents' cell phones, we make it easy to close the achievement gap before it starts.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Word Rebel

We cannot wait to visit our 60 amazing day care partners next week. As new families enroll in each day care, the dedicated program directors and social workers are coordinating hundreds of subscriptions to Word Rebel's weekly email-text service.

Jeanette at Educational Alliance said, "Parents love that every week they get 1-2 easy things they can do to help their child. They love that they can use their time on the bus or the train to read or talk, even if the time isn't a lot."

Angela from Bellevue Educare threw a holiday party in 2014 and was able to give every family 3 books thanks to Word Rebel supporters. She said, "Families love the assortment of books because each child gets to pick the book they want . Then the families started a system to swap books with each other so every family really got access to almost 30 books as opposed to just 1 or 2. I'm hoping to throw another holiday party this year if we have the funds."

As we visit our child care partners next week, we are so excited to inform them that they can expect shipments of award-winning books this fall.

Thank you for making story-time, and equal opportunity, a reality for 5,000 low-income children in NYC!
