International Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8th, a day dedicated to raising awareness and concern for literacy issues worldwide. In honor of this important day, the World Literacy Foundation is launching this campaign to support individuals like Ayanda who are striving to improve their literacy skills and change their lives. Your donation can provide the Literacy Pen and the necessary tutoring to those in need. Together, we can give Ayanda and many others the gift of literacy and hope
Living as a functionally illiterate adult has been incredibly challenging for Ayanda. Everyday tasks that many take for granted became daunting obstacles. Reading a bus schedule, understanding a medicine label, or filling out a simple form were insurmountable hurdles. Ayanda often relied on the kindness of strangers to navigate these daily challenges, which made her feel vulnerable and dependent. Her lack of literacy also kept her in a cycle of poverty. Without the ability to read or write.
At World Literacy Foundation, we are conscious of the struggle of millions of young adults like Ayanda. That's why we partnered with Medias Monks to develop a solution for them. The Literacy Pen is a device that clips onto a pen or pencil, enabling users to speak into a microphone and see their words displayed digitally. It's designed to help individuals like Ayanda learn to read and write quickly and effectively.
