The Christopher Kolade Foundation (CKF) delivered a sexuality and reproductive health education program in April 2025. The program was delivered in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the Youth Development and Empowerment Initiative (YEDI), an adolescent health organization.
The program, a component of CKF’s Life Skills Training Program, was delivered to 119 girls from 5 public senior secondary schools in Lagos. Themed ‘Know Your Rights’, the initiative was designed to equip adolescent girls with essential knowledge and skills to identify and respond to abuse, assert their rights, build resilience against sexual coercion and pressure, and inform them about available support services in the event of abuse.
The sessions were facilitated by trained coaches who took the girls through key themes in the training, including:
The sessions were highly interactive. The interactive segments enabled students to voice concerns and seek clarification on unclear issues. Students engaged in role-plays and discussions that enhanced their ability to recognize red flags and take appropriate action. The question-box method was adopted, which allowed for anonymous submissions, encouraging openness and safeguarding privacy. Pre and post-session questionnaires were administered to evaluate the students’ knowledge levels and assess the impact of the sessions. At the end of the session, the students demonstrated increased understanding of their rights and awareness of abuse-related issues.
Our goal is to reach 500 girls by the end of 2025, and we are less than halfway through. Each girl reached represents a step closer to ending sexual violence against girls. With your continued support, we would be able to reach more girls with life skills that will ultimately help contribute to better life outcomes.
