Childhood cancer is not a death sentence. In Ghana, 1300 kids are diagnosed with cancer every year. 6000 kids are hospitalized annually, including new patients, those continuing treatment, and those experiencing a recurrence. Their chances for survival depend on the availability of medication, facilities, and emotional support. Adjah Cancer Support Ghana's project provides these kids with necessary treatment(medicines, rehabilitation, and equipment), and relief (psychological support and leisure
The healthcare system in Ghana has always been underfunded, due to economic crises and corruption the healthcare sector has faced significant budget cuts. As a result, in other countries, over 70% of children with certain diagnoses recover, while in Ghana, the mortality statistics are much higher. Some of the reasons for this include the absence of necessary medicines and facilities, as well as delayed treatment.
Our goal is to provide essential medication and equipment that may not be available at hospitals to children affected by cancer in Ghana, increasing their chances of survival. Additionally, Adjah Cancer Support Ghana provides vital resources to help children overcome the disease, including psychological support, physical rehabilitation, and leisure activities to improve their quality of life.
Adjah Cancer Support Ghana's ultimate goal is to raise the general level of medical assistance for children in Ghana to meet the highest international standards, thereby increasing their chances of long-term survival and improving their quality of life after recovering from the disease.
