Dear Givers and Lovers of the Literary Arts,
Our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project is funded, in part, by generous donations to our GlobalGiving Online Crowdfunding Campaigns: 1. beginning with our inaugural Accelerator campaign (June 2020), 2. our GivingTuesday campaigns of December 2020 and November 2021, and 3. the ongoing gifts of generous souls like you—even throughout the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, sadly now heading into 2022! You have empowered us to utilize the precious and effective tool of writing to engage all those who want and need to enhance their voice and validation and join in our monthly virtual workshops to relieve stress, isolation, and more. The funds received kept our presence on social media and maintained our website to continue to build our outreach in multiple communities in various regions throughout the United States. We were able to supplement writers monetarily, hire our Administrative Coordinator, maintain our valued workshop facilitators, who also mentored those who wished to creatively self-express themselves.
The LJWG gave back to its home state, Maryland. In the latter part of 2021, and early 2022, LJWG donated to Maryland Humanities, Life Inc. (an organization that serves the disabled community), The Center for Abused Persons, WETA/PBS, Two Educational Grants given by the American Library Association and Families in Recovery (in-kind). Via our writer’s coaching/editing and financial support, LJWG has gotten two writers to the finish line of authorship. And we are on track to do more.
On October 2, 2021, our last Big Quarterly of the year, we produced Life Journeys Writers Guild Presents Poetry is Power at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in its Family Theater. It was an in-person event, featuring celebrity guest host and vocalist Ms. Candiace Dillard of The Real Housewives of Potomac. Even during the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, it played to a nearly sold-out crowd. Our poetry and prose performers spent the year prior working on their literary works by attending our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project. That’s how their talent came into our awareness. Our GlobalGiving donations also helped us provide stipends to participating musicians, dancers, poets, and prose artists/actors and supply whatever it took to make the production happen. We entertained and made solid social commentary to create a better world! Poetry is Power; its unique post-production is streaming now on https://poetryispower.link/support
Our latest news: LJWG’s 15th Annual Season Opener/Big Quarterly takes place Saturday, February 12, 2022. During this virtual event, our guest speaker, coming to us from London, England, is Bestselling Author and Disney Producer Kwame Alexander. In celebration of his valued appearance to inspire and inform other writers, he has partnered with us to donate 200 of his children’s book titles, purchased from Black-owned booksellers, to schools in need throughout Maryland, USA. We can’t wait!
Kindly, I hope you will spread the good word on the wealth of writing, how we’re working hard to make a difference, and that even a modest monthly gift such as $10 (tax-deductible) can make all the difference—in our outreach and work!
All in all, we are very grateful! Thank you,
Yvonne J. Medley, Founder

Our big news: In 2021, The Life Journeys Writers Club, Inc. (our DBA is Life Journeys Writers Guild), managed to bring informative guest speakers during three of our Big Quarterlies. In February, we hosted a member of the board of directors on the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (TheEmmys): In April, we brought a Maryland Regional Library Director (American Library Association, ALA); in July, we brought in a prominent entertainment attorney. And for our last Big Quarterly of the 2021 season—October—we’re producing Life Journeys Writers Guild Presents Poetry is Power at The Kennedy Center, The Family Theater, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. with Celebrity Guest Host Ms. Candiace Dillard of The Real Housewives of Potomac—who will also perform. It will be our first in-person event since the outbreak of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. Our high visibility and proceeds will allow us to serve the underserved in our communities. Most of the poetry and prose writers performing in our production workshopped their works and strengthened relationships via our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project.
Kindly, I am hopeful that you will spread the good word on the wealth of writing, how we’re working hard to make a difference, and that even a modest monthly gift such as $10 (tax-deductible) can make all the difference in our outreach and work!
All in all, we are very grateful!!!!! Thank you.

Our Writing and Mentoring workshop series, intended to help the visually impaired, branched out to help those with other disabilities, including mental illness. We have now expanded the Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project to include the hearing impaired of all ages—especially teens. The Project has enabled us to continue our literary stride with monthly workshops and support many writers! We were able to get one writer published, and we have three more in the lineup. We distributed valuable literary-incentive giveaways, and we plan to give another laptop to a writer who cannot afford one. The Project has also expanded to help those caught up in the penal system, working on recovery from drug abuse and putting their families back together via a Family in Recovery Court program. And … as the U.S. recovers from COVID-19, we are back behind bars using our Project to empower incarcerated individuals. This ongoing funding helps us to do that.

Our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project, funded by generous donations to our GlobalGiving Online Crowdfunding Campaign during June 2020, and now, our GivingTuesday Campaign, held in December, has afforded us much. First, it kept our social and website presence going, even throughout the COVID-19 Global Pandemic of 2020 and into 2021. The nonprofit, the Life Journeys Writers Club, Inc., is still not taking in any revenue, and offering all its LJWG consultations and workshops, free. We have been able to financially provide for several writers to get published. We plan to do more. We gave away incentive literary giveaways to shelter residents, and even gave one writer a brand-new laptop, because that writer has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to learn, write, and a thirst for engagement throughout the project, even while going through hard times.
Again, we kept those who felt isolated and stressed, engaged by offering virtual one-on-one mentoring check-ins. The GivingTuesday Campaign on December 1, 2020, took us over the halfway mark of our fundraising goal of $20,000. And now, we feel we’re going to make it. Assured by donations, we have been able to prepare for a guest speaker for our February 2021 Season Opener that will mark the nonprofit’s 14 years of service. We will expand our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project to include, not only the visually-impaired but also the hearing-impaired (youth) to encourage them to love reading. And we’ve already begun to work with and mentor two more writers (a husband and wife couple) to bring them to the finish line of authorship. We were also able to pay our employee and purchase a printer for that employee to make the work easier.
All in all, we are very grateful!!!!! Thank you.

Our Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project, funded by generous donations to our GlobalGiving Online Crowdfunding Campaign during June 2020, has gotten off to an invigorating start! Because you gave, the Life Journeys Writers Guild never missed a beat, conducting multiple Writing Workshops each month—even while the effects of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic loomed heavy. We kept those who felt isolated, stressful and who missed mentoring communications to uplift their creative self-expression and voice via writing, learning and meaty discussions. We were even able to render open invitations to those who had not heard of us—yet.
In July, the nonprofit was able to assemble an LJWG Dream Team of amazing, nurturing and passionate professionals to enhance, empower and mentor those who come to us.
In August, The Dream Team, consisting of authors, editors, writer coaches, performing arts directors and therapists, was able to obtain additional training/updates in Mental Health First Aid, thanks to your donations. Also, in August, the LJWG participated in Community Back-to-School Drive-byes to give away school supplies, book bags and even a few toys meant to inspire reading.
In the September/October and October/November issues of Writer's Digest Magazine, the LJWG was able to promote the Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project, nationwide.
In October, and upcoming in November and December, 2020, the Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project will conduct a series of special writing workshops, and its mentoring, to the visually impaired as well as seek partnerships with several organizations that support those who are disabled. In fact, the two-to-three-hour workshops have already begun. Everyone has a Story!!! Come share yours with us!!!!
Please know that the LJWG is a service organization, and these specially designed workshops, aimed to fuel and empower the disabled as well as the general public, are based on person-to-person relationships able to build on trusted and professional interactions. Our most important asset comes down to caring people, passionate in the Literary Arts. And we, at the LJWG, thank you for making all this possible!!!!!
