Summary

The Project facilitates positive/creative self-expression via the written word to enhance cognitive skills, life skills, intellectual/emotional wellness, civility, non-violent problem-solving, social tolerance, and more. Its Literary Therapy and mentorship gives voice and validation to underserved populations. It builds relationships and promotes life skills learning while addressing mental health/behavioral stressors/traumas-especially during the challenges of the global COVID-19 Pandemic.

Challenge

A lack of resources for students (all ages, including adult learners) in need of academic support and/or a safe and nurturing outlet to creatively self-express and explore their feelings. Also the general population is living in an age of anxiety, effecting every age/all walks of life, yet stigma, limited financial resource or information and fear prevents many from seeking relief and solace. Sadly, too often, when help finally arrives, it's because some type of traumatic incident has occurred.

Solution

This project avails itself as an empowering and economic bridge of access to those, willing to enjoy the literary arts. There's no emphasis on academic or life skills deficiencies/challenges, or to one's mental health challenges or emotional stressors, yet by simply expressing oneself via the written word, discussing, being heard and feeling safe, the process alleviates anxieties, builds healthy relationships, enhances academics. There are qualified professionals to inform and direct.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide structured creative and therapeutic outlet, and mentoring for 500 men, women, youth and children, segmented in various groups with the goal of not only enhancing their academic, social and life skills, but also alleviating mental health/emotional stressors via the written word and relationship building modalities.
