SAMPARK's - EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE & EDUCATION CENTRES FOR MIGRANT CHILDREN
"Empowering Minds: The Transformative Role of Libraries in young children" Sampark runs 26 Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) centers for children of migrant workers. The centers function from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm from Monday to Saturday. Migrant children coming from low- income families are often left uncared for in the labor colonies while the parents work as contruction laborers. The ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) centers serve as a cornerstone for fostering the holistic development of migrant children, in Bangalore, India. They develop school going dsicipline, cleanliness, hygience, recieve timely nutrition and immunization and are growing happy, haealthy and smart to make the transition from informal labor. Children who have been cared through the ECCE centres have grown up to become graduates, nurses today, reiterating the importance of ECCE.

The structured routine followed at these centers, with a combination of drawing activities, learning alphabets and numerals through songs and activities, and the regular introduction of new cognitive activities, is essential for the holistic development of the children. MINI LIBRARIES IN ECCE CENTRES

Sampark set up a mini library in 12 early childhood care and education centers in Bangalore. Children above the age group of 5 years are engaged in reading activities.

7. V S Reddy Colony - 20 girls and 17 boys
8. Doddakannelli Center - 18 girls and 22 boys
9. Siddapura Center - 25 girls and 25 boys
10.Avalahalli Center - 23 girls and 25 boys
11.G R Homes Center - 17 girls and 19 boys
12. Hoysalanagar Center-18 girls and 20 boys11.
The consistent participation of 549 children above 5 years in reading storybooks at the center is a remarkable achievement. It reflects the positive impact of Sampark's initiative on their development and lays a foundation for lifelong learning.
The donation of storybooks from some friends in the UK has added immense value to the libraries, enriching the resources available to the children. These books not only broaden the literary exposure of the children but also introduce them to diverse cultures, perspectives, and storytelling styles.
Access to a library during the after-school program is indeed a transformative resource for children, offering both intellectual and personal growth opportunities.
