This project has created libraries stocked with recreational reading books and encyclopedias for 28 orphanages and one school serving over 4,000 orphans and vulnerable children in India. We will continue to fund more libraries with your help. Reading can be the key to inspiring a love of learning and a hunger for education in children. Encyclopedias provide information and reading for pleasure kindles the imagination. Thank you for helping to ignite the love of learning through reading.
Most of the children in the orphanages we support come from very poor illiterate backgrounds. Some were beggars on the street. We want the orphanages to have not only a home-like atmosphere with security and comfort, but have an environment that nurtures a child's desire to learn. This can help the children be better students, complete higher education, enjoy fuller, happier lives and help raise their country out of poverty.
We have witnessed children who grew up as beggars on the street learn to love reading because of access to recreational reading books. They shared an enthusiasm for the same books enjoyed by millions of children around the world. These books stirred their imagination, and sparked a new and powerful intellectual curiosity. These children discovered a world their parents would never know, and as a result, they could never go back to life on the streets. We want to replicate this in our orphanages.
Providing recreational reading libraries to orphanages can ignite the love of reading and learning. This will complement the education the children receive in school. We seek successful outcomes for all the children we support which requires that they complete higher education. The love of learning is key to achieving this. These children, many unwanted because they are girls, will be better equipped to complete their education and rise out of the poverty of their past to bright futures.
