In Colombia many children live in poverty. Since 1970, we have worked to protect children at risk of abuse, helping them and their families with food, psychosocial support, education, recreation, health, prevention of child pregnancy, sports and guidance for children. Keeping them safe from the dangers of the street, child labor and other types of abuse is our goal. During COVID19, more than 180 families without permanent jobs receive our help, with food for their children and other supports.
Colombia is a country with high levels of social and economic inequality, almost 30% of the Colombian population is classified in conditions of poverty, of which 10% are classified as extreme poverty, which is linked to situations of social and political violence and family, abandonment of children, displacement, discrimination, child labor, lack of study opportunities and other situations that directly affect many children and adolescents. The Covid 19 emergency has increased these problems.
The work is focused on poor children-from 7 to 18 years old-provide protection with an integrated program in quality education, food, health care and livelihood plans to stop abuse, mistreatment, child labor, with access to health and psychosocial help. Children receive every day food, school support and other assistance to their families, to improve their conditions for life in poverty. In 2020 with your help we have been able to provide food to more than 200 families affected by the pandemic.
Each child can access education, adequate medical care, nutrition and recreation so that they can have a childhood free of child labor and abuse, with support for their education, generating rights prevention strategies that contribute to the strengthening of families and social networks where children reach their integral human development. Since 1970 more than 6000 children have received attention and love, taking them out of the risks of living in streets to develop a successful life project.
