The One, The Only, Cymarshall

Hello Friends, Supporters, And Our Global Community!

You have subscribed to email updates from Let’s Talk About it: Mental Health Support Japan by Legacy Foundation Japan, a project on GlobalGiving.Thank You for Supporting Legacy Foundation Japan’s Let’s Talk About It Mental Health Initiative. Here is our unfiltered update!

Apologies for the delay in our report, but much has happened since we last updated everyone! First off, a heartfelt thank you to GlobalGivings and to everyone who has supported and continues to support our mission. Your generosity fuels meaningful conversations and transformative experiences, helping us break the stigma around mental health.

April Highlights:

  1. Cymarshall
    1. African-American author, writer, and rapper visited Japan to share his story, adventure, and success pursuing his dreams and passions while retaining his emotional and mental health. Cymarshall kicked off his event by rapping some of his favorite songs and then moving to explaining his verses, word choice, themes, and messages of his music.
    2. He moved into explaining his upbringing, his twists and turns along his journey, the trials and tribulations he faced, and how he overcame many of the adversities in his life, many of which are detailed in his book “52 Laws of Freedom”. Cymarshall attributed much of his success to the challenges brought before him, some of the failures he faced and learned from, but also, the community and support network that guided him.
    3. He ended with a call, an initiative, to take action, to keep the passion lit, and not let good, impactful dreams go left unfulfilled and unattempted. Cymarshall emphasized the necessity of one to actively and consistently monitor their own emotional and mental capacity, limits, and health. He answered the questions of guests who were seeking the same guidance and clarity he received and wanted during his youth.

May Highlights:

  1. Basquiat Art & Painting
    1. A wonderfully, colorful Sunday afternoon of drawing and expressing one’s feelings, perception, and state of their mental and emotional health. With the guidance of our lead painters and artists, Insert Names Here, travelers and supporters of the Legacy Foundation were able to express their inner personas and ideals, representing themselves, their minds, and their communities.

June Highlights:

  1. Juneteenth Gala
    1. The event of the year! The gathering that must not by any means be missed! The Juneteenth Gala!! The organization and execution done by none other than, The Legacy Foundation. An event dedicated to the emancipation and freedom earned by African-Americans. While this event is a gathering for all those who are willing to learn about and support drives for freedom and equality for black people, it is not limited to only that. This is a larger call to action, a global commune for communities and individuals worldwide who have or feel signs of oppression, hopelessness, and rejection
    2. While there was a strong African-American community, there were other communities that made their presence known. People from different parts of the world who live in and visit Japan came to celebrate together on common grounds of mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Japanese, Canadians, Americans, Africans, and Europeans, and others gathered together to honor and highlight histories, struggles, and ideals that are more often than not overlooked and ignored. The sight of everyone coming together to be reminded of critical values such as mental health, cooperation, understanding, and communication while enjoying food, music, and fashion was an outstanding sight.
    3. Speaking of fashion, there were many models, dancers, designers, and fashionistas attending and contributing to the planning, execution, and success of this year's Gala! With their assistance, individuals such as the models and dancers were able to be and express who they wanted to on the inside as well as the outside. Attendees and performers alike bonded over the shared message of mental and emotional health being connected to one's beauty and appearance.
