’Volunteering to tackle loneliness’ became the motto of Volunteering Hungary recently.
Our organisations key activities are still focusing on helping the wellbeing of senior members of the society. In Hungary, over 900,000 elderly people live alone, our country is one of the most ageing societies in Europe. Loneliness can cause significant mental and physical health issues at any age, but for older adults, it leads to even more severe life challenges.
We believe everyone appreciates care and attention, so we continue to work on the 3 main focus areas:
1) Keeping company: the presence of our volunteers helps to ease seniors’ loneliness; we started a new volunteer group in a new Budapest district
2) Organizing programs: we help isolated seniors to get out of their homes and join our programs; we organised 3 excursion for our seniors in the last 3 months and also offered the opportunity to participate at more than 10 corporate volunteering programs
3) Building community: we offer meaningful human connections and lasting friendship, proactively looking for new volunteers who can help and elderly people who need help
We are currently planning to open a Volunteer Meeting Point (a community venue in the heart of Budapest), where we are planning to organise programs dedicated to our senior members on a regular basis.
Your donations will help us to increase the number of volunteers who can visit elderly, isolated people in their homes and you can also contribute to enrich the variety of programs available in our new venue (to be opening its doors early next year). Thank you for supporting Volunteering Hungary!
