Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project Report
Summary
This project aims to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services in a rural African community. Through the installation of a borehole, construction of handwashing stations, distribution of WASH kits, and delivery of hygiene education, more than 200 households will gain access to safe water and improved sanitation. With a funding goal of $20,000, the project will reduce waterborne diseases, improve community health, and provide sustainable solutions that enhance the well-being of vulnerable families.
Challenge
The community faces a severe shortage of clean and safe water. Residents depend on distant and often contaminated water sources, including streams, ponds, and shallow wells, exposing them to diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. Women and children spend many hours each day collecting water, limiting opportunities for education and economic activities. The lack of proper sanitation facilities and handwashing stations further increases health risks and disease transmission.
Solution
The project will address these challenges by drilling and installing a borehole to provide reliable access to safe drinking water throughout the year. Handwashing stations will be constructed in strategic locations to encourage proper hygiene practices and reduce the spread of diseases. WASH kits will be distributed to households, and community-led training sessions will educate residents—particularly women and children—on sanitation, hygiene, and water management practices to ensure long-term sustainability.
Long-Term Impact
This initiative will generate lasting benefits for the community by improving health, education, and economic opportunities. Access to clean water and sanitation will significantly reduce waterborne diseases and healthcare expenses. Children, especially girls, will have more time to attend school, while women will be able to participate in income-generating activities. Increased awareness of hygiene and sanitation practices will foster a healthier environment and strengthen the community's resilience for years to come.
