Report of the project

By Ekabole Joy | CEO/Founder

Project Summary.

This project aims to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in a rural African community by drilling and installing a borehole, constructing handwashing stations, and providing hygiene education. Over 200 households now benefit from safe drinking water, reduced exposure to waterborne diseases, and improved hygiene practices. With a total budget of $20,000, the project delivers sustainable, community-led WASH solutions that enhance health, education, and livelihoods. The Challenge Before the project, the community faced a severe shortage of clean and safe water. Residents depended on distant and contaminated streams, ponds, and shallow wells, exposing families to diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. Women and children spent long hours fetching water, negatively affecting school attendance, productivity, and overall well-being. The lack of handwashing facilities further increased health risks and disease transmission. The Solution The project addressed these challenges by drilling and installing a functional borehole to provide year-round access to safe drinking water. Handwashing stations were constructed in strategic locations to promote proper hygiene. Hygiene education sessions were conducted, with a strong focus on women and children, to encourage safe sanitation practices and long-term behavior change. In addition, WASH kits were distributed to households to support daily hygiene needs. Long-Term Impact Access to clean water and improved sanitation has significantly reduced the incidence of waterborne diseases in the community, lowering healthcare costs and improving quality of life. Children—especially girls—now spend more time in school rather than fetching water. Women have gained time to participate in income-generating activities, strengthening household economies. Continued hygiene education is fostering lasting habits that promote cleanliness, dignity, and community health.
