Dear Donor/ supporter !

CHHASE, our staff and our community wish you “ HAPPY PONGAL ”. A festival of thanks giving in Tamil Nadu.

About “PONGAL”

According to tradition, the festival marks the end of winter season and the start of the sun's six-month-long journey northwards when the sun enters the zodiac Makara (Capricorn). The festival is named after the ceremonial "Pongal", which means "to boil, overflow" and refers to the traditional dish prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled in milk with jaggery (raw sugar). To mark the festival, the pongal sweet dish is prepared, first offered to the gods and goddesses (goddess Pongal), followed sometimes with an offering to cows, and then shared by the family. Festive celebrations include decorating cows and their horns, ritual bathing and processions. It is traditionally an occasion for decorating rice-powder based Kolam artworks, offering prayers in the home, temples, getting together with family and friends, and exchanging gifts to renew social bonds of solidarity.

Pongal is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Tamil people in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, AndhraPradesh, Telengana and puducherry in India. It is also a major Tamil festival in Srilanka. It is observed by the Tamil diaspora worldwide, including those in Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, Singapore, United states, United kingdom and Canada.

The festival's most significant practice is the preparation of the traditional "pongal" dish. It utilizes freshly harvested rice, and is prepared by boiling it in milk and raw cane sugar (jaggery). Sometimes additional ingredients are added to the sweet dish, such as: Cardamom, raisins, Green gram and cashew nuts. Other ingredients include coconut and ghee.

First of all thank you very much recognizing our charity as a most Effective Nonprofit Organization for the year 2021 by GlobalGiving Foundation USA.

We have been serving unfortunate elderly persons by donating every day nutritious meal with your timely donations to charity. We have been established the old age care center with gracefully maintained kitchen to serve the sanitized meal for the old age women. These women are unfortunate due to different reasons. The sons and daughters left their parents at home and migrated to work as daily wage laborers where ever the work allots by mason at construction sites. They become as migrant laborers in different cities. Due to age concern old age persons are not able to work as their health not permits at all anymore and living at home itself idle and some of them are not having children & they are living in thatched homes. Many of the older people don’t have huts also.

This is our prestigious initiative to serve meal for unfortunate old age people. We have identified these 57 older people, age group of 60 to 90 years in Tiruvallur district and donating nutritious meals for the helpless old age women. Every day meal includes steam cooked rice, dhal, sambar, curd or buttermilk, pickle, seasonal fruits. Every festive season, we donate clothes sarees, blouses. Recently we have celebrated Diwali Festival on 04.11.2021, We celebrate all the festivals and we make happiness among all the poor elderly people. Elderly parents are very happy and living with dignity. With this nutritious meal program their health has been improved a lot. Thank you for donating meal for the empowerment of poor old age people.

Respected Donor !

CHHASE is working for ''Down trodden communities development'' and is always taking new steps for that. From time to time we see the impact stories from ground by our feedback forms.one of these Beneficiary's story is shared in this report.

Meet with Meenakshi......!!

Hello everyone! My name is Meenakshi (Name Changed) and I am 14 years old. I am studying in rural school and I am in 9th standard. I belong to a small village and my mother is housewife and my father does farming labor on someone’s land. I have also a younger brother who is 7 years old. From last year, I came to know about the corona virus as my schools were closed and lockdown was started by the government at every place. All the people were told to be at house in order to be safe from the novel corona virus. This year when the school reopened, I saw my school dress, they were short as I grew from the last 1.5 years. I was not even able to wear the dress. I told this to my father but then my father told me that he is not able to purchase new dress for me as we had faced so many problems in the lockdown and my father took loans from many people in order to feed the family and now he is paying back the loans he took. I was not able to go to school because of this.

CHHASE visited my house, they said that they got my name and address with the help of school administration and enquired why I was dropout of school. They took the baseline survey of me and saw my family’s poor financial condition. Then they told my family that they heard that I am not coming to school and this was because I was not having proper school dress and school kit. The CHHASE team members then took my school dress size and then the CHHASE team members said that they will be coming back after few days. After few days the CHHASE team members called me to school where they had organized the School kit & school dress distribution program. I was also given the school dress and school kit for free by the CHHASE team members. The whole program was done while following all the covid-19 safety protocols.

I was very happy to see the school dress and school kit because now I will be able to go to school without any problem. I went back to my home and showed the school dress and school kit to my family and then they were also smiling as all this was given to me for free. They told me to study better and always do good things as when you do good things then good things return to you too. My school mates were also very happy when they saw me coming back to school. Now I will be going school every day as now I am having school dress of my size to wear and school shoes of my size to wear. I and my family thanked the CHHASE team for identifying and providing relief to me. I will be always studying hard to become successful so that this thing could not happen to me twice.

All these happened with the help of Organization & Donors. So, I thank from bottom of my heart.

Respected Patron,

10 years ago, we have been organizing meal program for poor elderly people as part of our zero hunger. 2011 onwards we never turned back and feeding every day nutritious meal for older people with your substantial donations. old age care center with hygienic kitchen established to serve the quality food for the elderly persons.

Most of the senior citizens are suffering with starvation and ill-health. At this old age, the senior citizens age group 60 to 90 years are not able to work as their health does not permits at all anymore & they are living in thatched huts. We donate clothes, woolen blankets, helping aged persons at the festival seasons. All the elderly people celebrate seasonal festivals like a family irrespective of religion. As part of our ongoing initiatives we have been implementing Meal Donation program for 57 elderly people in Tiruvallur district and donating food for old age people every day & nutritious meal includes steam cooked rice, leafy vegetable dhal, traditional tasty sambar, buttermilk, seasonal pickle, fresh fruits. With this food sponsorship their health have been improved and blessing you and your family for the well-being.

They smiled and given blesses to all our donors on all festival occasions. Without your timely donations it is very difficult for us to serve the neglected elders to fulfill their needs during Pandemic COVID-19 Corona virus. Thank you for donating money to charity to feed the elderly people.
