Meet with Meenakshi......!!

Hello everyone! My name is Meenakshi (Name Changed) and I am 14 years old. I am studying in rural school and I am in 9th standard. I belong to a small village and my mother is housewife and my father does farming labor on someone’s land. I have also a younger brother who is 7 years old. From last year, I came to know about the corona virus as my schools were closed and lockdown was started by the government at every place. All the people were told to be at house in order to be safe from the novel corona virus. This year when the school reopened, I saw my school dress, they were short as I grew from the last 1.5 years. I was not even able to wear the dress. I told this to my father but then my father told me that he is not able to purchase new dress for me as we had faced so many problems in the lockdown and my father took loans from many people in order to feed the family and now he is paying back the loans he took. I was not able to go to school because of this.

CHHASE visited my house, they said that they got my name and address with the help of school administration and enquired why I was dropout of school. They took the baseline survey of me and saw my family’s poor financial condition. Then they told my family that they heard that I am not coming to school and this was because I was not having proper school dress and school kit. The CHHASE team members then took my school dress size and then the CHHASE team members said that they will be coming back after few days. After few days the CHHASE team members called me to school where they had organized the School kit & school dress distribution program. I was also given the school dress and school kit for free by the CHHASE team members. The whole program was done while following all the covid-19 safety protocols.

I was very happy to see the school dress and school kit because now I will be able to go to school without any problem. I went back to my home and showed the school dress and school kit to my family and then they were also smiling as all this was given to me for free. They told me to study better and always do good things as when you do good things then good things return to you too. My school mates were also very happy when they saw me coming back to school. Now I will be going school every day as now I am having school dress of my size to wear and school shoes of my size to wear. I and my family thanked the CHHASE team for identifying and providing relief to me. I will be always studying hard to become successful so that this thing could not happen to me twice.

All these happened with the help of Organization & Donors. So, I thank from bottom of my heart.

Respected Patron,

10 years ago, we have been organizing meal program for poor elderly people as part of our zero hunger. 2011 onwards we never turned back and feeding every day nutritious meal for older people with your substantial donations. old age care center with hygienic kitchen established to serve the quality food for the elderly persons.

Most of the senior citizens are suffering with starvation and ill-health. At this old age, the senior citizens age group 60 to 90 years are not able to work as their health does not permits at all anymore & they are living in thatched huts. We donate clothes, woolen blankets, helping aged persons at the festival seasons. All the elderly people celebrate seasonal festivals like a family irrespective of religion. As part of our ongoing initiatives we have been implementing Meal Donation program for 57 elderly people in Tiruvallur district and donating food for old age people every day & nutritious meal includes steam cooked rice, leafy vegetable dhal, traditional tasty sambar, buttermilk, seasonal pickle, fresh fruits. With this food sponsorship their health have been improved and blessing you and your family for the well-being.

They smiled and given blesses to all our donors on all festival occasions. Without your timely donations it is very difficult for us to serve the neglected elders to fulfill their needs during Pandemic COVID-19 Corona virus. Thank you for donating money to charity to feed the elderly people.

Elections in Tamil Nadu.

The sixteenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 6 April 2021, to elect representatives from the 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The poll is the state's first assembly election after the demises of the two most prominent Chief Ministers in its modern history, J.Jayalalitha and M.Karunanidhi, who had died in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The term of the state's current fifteenth legislative assembly will conclude on 24 May 2021.  CHHASE created awareness to all to vote for right candidate.

New Dresses to tribal children.

On 10th april, we have distributed new dresses to tribal children. All the 100 tribal children are happy to receive their new dresses, who are otherwise left to wear shabby clothes.Their parents also happy and promised us to send their children to our after school education centres and to main schools.

With your timely support, CHHASE helped them with ration kits twice and we provided clothing during lockdowns.

A small note about Tribal people.

The tribe numbers around 215,000 spread across three states: 189,621 in Tamil Nadu, 23,721 in Kerala and 10,259 in Karnataka. Those in Karnataka are named Iruligas. The Irulas are mainly concentrated in northern Tamil Nadu: in a wedge extending from Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri  districts in the west to Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts in the south and Tiruvallur district in the north. Small populations live in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts and were classified by Thurston as a different population. In Kerala, the Irulas are in Palakkad district, while in Karnataka they are concentrated in Ramanagara and Bangalore districts.

Cattle-breeding is main source of income. Wild resources like honey, firewood and the like are also collected. The main occupation of the Irulas has been snake and rat catching. They also work as labourers (coolies) in the fields of the landlords during the sowing and harvesting seasons. Fishing is also a minor occupation. The original occupation of these people was rat and snake catching. Since the abolishing of snake catching by the Indian Government, the community had to abandon their migratory lifestyle and make their living among the suspicious mainstream society. The community has settled down in the outer edge of various villages, trying to make their living in as daily laborer in the fields, bonded labour in rice mills. Since, they do not have education and relevant livelihood skills.
