The Fund for Special Rescues strengthens Argentina's Food Bank network by supporting the rescue of fresh, nutritious surplus food such as fruits, vegetables, and dairy before it goes to waste. By funding urgent logistics and transport, we transform potential waste into millions of healthy meals for over 1 million people -68% of them children- while reducing environmental impact and strengthening communities nationwide.
Argentina faces a severe food insecurity crisis. Over 45 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, and millions struggle to access nutritious food every day. At the same time, approximately 16 million tons of food, representing 12.5 percent of national production, are lost or wasted each year, including fresh products such as fruits, vegetables, and dairy. This paradox of hunger alongside food waste disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, especially children.
The Fund for Special Rescues provides rapid funding to cover transportation and coordination costs, enabling Food Banks across Argentina to recover surplus nutritious food before it is lost. By removing logistical barriers, the project ensures immediate action when large donations arise. The Fund will help rescue 1.2 million kilograms of food, equal to 3.6 million meals, while reducing emissions and strengthening 20 Food Banks.
This project will strengthen Argentina's Food Bank network to sustainably recover over 1.2 million kilograms of fresh food each year, providing 3.6 million meals to vulnerable communities, 68 percent of them children. By preventing food waste and methane emissions, it will improve nutrition, reduce environmental impact, and build a more resilient and efficient food system nationwide.
