The project will train the 250 landless poor farmers for Riverbed Vegetable Farming of Rajdevi Munacipality of Rautahat district, Nepal, providing seed, fertilizer and irrigation support and promote theirs livelihood by proper use of sandy riverbank and riverbed of Bagmati river.
Nepal is a developing mountainous country. There are several rivers arise from mountain and hills of Nepal. Due to the river bank cutting, soil and erosion, flood, the cultivated land of farmers become unusable and barren. So The economic condition of the farmers is deteriorating day by day. They have to face hand to mouth problem, unemployment. They can't be sending theirs children to school for education. Due to poverty, they can't get health facility in time.
Riverbed farming is an environmentally, economically and technologically sustainable practice that can contribute to creating employment opportunities and enhance landless poor farmers capacities to sustainably adapt to the effects of climate change, reducing the risks of food insecurity and malnutrition and contributing towards economic development of the country, which creates social harmony. This shows that river bed farming has a huge potential in country.
Nepal is agricultural country and most of the people of this country depend on agriculture. In context of Nepal most of furtile land is in the Terai region that is why it is also known as bread basket of Nepal. But Nepal's vast riverbeds, especially in the Terai area, remain submerged in muddy waters during the rainy season, and dry and desolate for the rest of the year. These unused riverbeds have huge potential to be utilized for poverty alleviation.
