Help build the new Kimbilio Day Centre - Stage 1

Hi, Thank you so much for your financial support for this Kimbilio Project to create a Day Centre with improved facilities for children living on the streets of Lubumbashi. The Cathedral building that we currently use as the Day Centre is not ideal in many ways, so there is a pressing need for a new purpose-built Day Centre. 

The cost to build the new Day Centre is quite high, so we are seeking grants to supplement the donations that we receive and we are hopeful of making a start with the building later this year. It was encouraging to see the recent Christmas celebrations at the Day Centre. Kimbilio wanted the street children to participate in the joy of Christmas and a special Christmas meal was provided, followed by games and presents. You can see from the above photo how crowded the room is!

Hi, thank you so much for your financial support for this vital Kimbilio Project. The need for a new Day Centre is critical because the current Day Centre in the Cathedral building in Lubumbashi is at full capacity. We are seeing increasing numbers of street children attending the Day Centre with more complex needs, such as drug dependancy, so a building with the facilities for dealing with all the children's needs is important for the work of Kimbilio going forward.

The children living on the streets struggle to get sufficient food and water and so the provision of a meal at the Day Centre is so important to the wellbeing of these children. They also frequently sustain injury or illness and Kimbilio provides medical treatment for their minor injuries and illnesses and hospital treatment for the more serious cases. In addition, the Kimbilio team at the Day Centre seek the background to each child's arrival on the streets and try to reintegrate the child into their wider family.
