Street children outside current Day Centre
Hi, thank you so much for your financial support for this vital Kimbilio Project to build a new purpose-built Day Centre in Lubumbashi that will enable Kimbilio to have up to date facilities for caring for children forced to live on the streets. Stage 1 is the ground floor of the new building and will have rooms for food preparation, showers and washing facilities, counselling and medical care. At the moment, we will continue to use the Cathedral building in Lumbumbashi as the Day Centre.
We haven't reached the total that we need to start the building the new Day Centre but we hope to achieve this soon. Ian Harvey, the founding director of Kimbilio, plans to meet with potential builders when he visits the DRC next month.

Refreshments at the Day Centre
Hi, thank you so much for your financial support for the Kimbilio project to build a Day Centre to meet the needs of the children living on the streets of Lubumbashi in the DRC. The first stage of the project is the ground floor of the new building and will provide a safe place for children to come off the streets for care & support. There will be shower facilities, a kitchen and rooms for medical care, counselling and games.
This is a big and exciting project and we are well on the way to reaching the total that we need for Stage 1. The Cathedral in Lubumbashi is currently being used as the Day Centre, but is clearly not got all the facilities that we need, so the need is urgent. In 2024 we helped on average 38 boys and 9 girls at the the Day Centre every day that it was open. Many of the children were of junior school age, so the Kimbilio team of carers quickly tried to ascertain from these young children the reason for their leaving home and sought to establish communication with their families to effect a reintegration with a family member.
Thank you again for your support.

A typically busy day at the existing Day Centre
Thank you so much for your support for the building of a new Day Centre to serve the children living on the streets in the City of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ian Harvey, the founding Director of Kimbilio, recognised the need to have a purpose-built Day Centre to replace the use of the Anglican Cathedral, which will have the space and facilities to enable the Kimbilio team to fully address all the physical and emotional needs of these young children. The Day Centre is often the first point of contact with a child living on the streets and so the starting point on a journey which will hopefully see the child reintegrated into their wider family.
The new Day Centre is an ambitious Project and your support is enabling us to gain the funds needed to begin the building work. Thank you again.
