The Food Bank of Honduras will deliver a pantry of healthy and nutritious food, composed mostly of fruits and vegetables rescued from different productive sectors of Honduras; benefiting 2,800 families in 22 communities in vulnerable and food insecure situations in the departments of Francisco Morazan, Cortes and Choluteca; supporting 11,200 people: 831 infants, 2,938 children, 1,858 adolescents, 5,074 adults and 499 seniors.
Honduras has a population of 9.5 million inhabitants, 65.7% of whom live in poverty and 42.5% in extreme poverty; 54.2% live in conditions of food insecurity, 23% of children under 5 years of age suffer from chronic malnutrition and 11% go to sleep hungry every night. Hunger conditions in Honduras are critical and increase as negative changes in the national and international economy occur increasing the prices of the basic food basket and products, which decreases the quality of life of people.
The Food Bank of Honduras will deliver monthly pantries of nutritious and healthy food to 2,800 food insecure families and will provide counseling, assessment, monitoring and nutritional education to our beneficiaries; contributing to Sustainable Development Goal #1 No Poverty and #2 Zero Hunger.
Kilometer of Nutrition will contribute to the reduction of food loss and waste, rescuing perishable food from various productive sectors in Honduras and will reduce contamination generated by the decomposition of food in the fields. The healthy food delivered and the nutritional education provided will create better eating habits and customs that will improve the health of our 11,200 beneficiaries (infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors).
