1.85 million elementary and junior high school students in Japan face significant economic and social challenges, such as poverty, truancy, and developmental disorders. These children often lack access to opportunities to learn digital skills, deepening the educational divide. To address these issues, Kids Code Club provides free online tech-learning events and tutorials, creating opportunities for children facing these challenges - and all kids - to gain IT skills and build global connections.
Educational systems in many countries have not provided sufficient opportunities for learning computer science. While there exist a number of coding schools in Japan and globally, most are not accessible to children from low-income families. We believe that it is essential to offer our programs free of charge and ensure access for all children. Japan being no exception to the digital divide occurring around the globe, continuous efforts to close the gap are needed now more than ever.
The "After School Programming Club," held three times a week, provides an online space where children and our staff collaborate to learn computer science. We also offer a program in which parents and caregivers join to share the experience. To provide further learning opportunities, we have developed the "CS in English" program with our partner organization in the U.S. We also provide free sets of PC and mobile Wi-Fi for families that cannot afford them. We deliver all of the above for free.
Our mission is to empower children to overcome challenges independently. Our accessible programs connect diverse children, creating an inclusive learning environment. We've impacted over 2,000 children, enhancing digital skills, confidence, and social abilities. By expanding our reach, we help children enrich their lives and ensure equal opportunities for future careers.
