The community of Bergsig falls within the Kareeberg Local Municipality of the Northern Cape and has high rates of unemployment and poor access to opportunities. The unemployment rate in the Northern Cape is at a staggering 42,6%. No work and a lack of access to opportunities also mean that the social grants that people receive are way too little to provide for their basic needs and supply sufficient food for families. Those most vulnerable go hungry, and it is community organizations like the Bergsig Support Group that find ways to assist where they can.
The current winter is very harsh, and cold weather plus an empty stomach is enough to make people feel even more despondent. This time your donations provided a very welcome winter warmth. Through the donations received, the organization could provide at least one meal a day to men and women between the ages of 30 – 59 years. They were identified as the most vulnerable in the community. For almost all of them, soup and ‘vetkoek’ (bread) were the first and only meal for the day!
Thank you for allowing them to feel the WARMTH of care!
