The Northern Cape has one of the highest rates of households experiencing hunger in South Africa. Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul said during his State of the Province Address in March that he was “concerned” about the 10 percent increase in food insecure households. This is a real concern!
The Project Leader of Bergsig Support Centre reports that communities suffer a lot due to the rising cost of food prices. People go hungry!
Bergsig does what they can to assist the most vulnerable in their community. Donations received through the generous giving of those who use the GlobalGiving platform have once again assisted the community organisation in providing 50 families including the elderly and children with at least one warm meal a day. The winter has been harsh and providing soup has helped to provide warmth and nourishment where it is much needed.
