Rebuild Kerr: A Community Transformed by Courage, Generosity, and Action

On July 4, 2025, while floodwaters were still rising across Kerr County, the Community
Foundation of the Texas Hill Country launched the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. The
response was immediate. Within minutes, the first donations arrived, and within hours
support poured in from across Texas and around the world. Contributions came from major
institutions, corporate partners, religious congregations, social clubs, and individual
neighbors determined to help.

What followed became one of the swiftest and most unifying philanthropic responses in
Texas history. Donors acted quickly and demonstrated a shared commitment to ensuring
that Kerr County would not face recovery alone.

Building a Foundation for Recovery

The generosity of donors established the foundation for a coordinated, multi-year recovery
effort. Resources have been directed toward addressing immediate and long-term
community needs, including housing recovery, mental health support, community
restoration, environmental restoration, and long-term resiliency.

Today, these recovery efforts continue through Rebuild Kerr, a coordinated philanthropic
initiative that serves as the home of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country’s
flood recovery work. The organization raised funds from the public through the Kerr County
Flood Relief Fund and now oversees ongoing recovery efforts through this long-term
initiative.

Impact as of June 18, 2026

The scale of the recovery effort is reflected in the results achieved to date:
$82 million granted
More than 100 nonprofit partners funded
More than 1,500 families supported
More than 600 small businesses assisted
More than 30 first responder groups provided resources

Your support in action this week:

In the wake of the July 4 floods, neighbors across the Hill Country continue to show up for one another. Here’s a quick look at the progress your support is making possible.

Housing Stability
Access to stable shelter continues to improve. Currently, 135 households (299 individuals) remain in temporary housing as permanent solutions move forward.
To date, the Foundation’s Down Payment Assistance program has helped 19 flood survivor households achieve homeownership.
Rebuilding & Construction
Rebuilding efforts continue to accelerate across the county.
– 58 homes have now been fully reconstructed
– 33 homes are actively under construction
– 47 modular and RV homes have been repaired or replaced
Unmet Needs Fund
The Community Foundation’s Unmet Needs Fund continues to address critical gaps for families navigating recovery: – 187 households helped
– Average award: $4,772
– Recent requests are now focusing on furniture and appliances, as more survivor households are coming home.

These investments have helped strengthen recovery efforts across the region while
supporting individuals, families, businesses, and organizations affected by the disaster.
Keeping the Community Connected

The Kerr County Flood Relief Initiative continues to help the community recover with
resilience and compassion. Through regular communications, Rebuild Kerr shares weekly
updates, community stories, and information about how support is helping rebuild Kerr
County.

Community members and supporters can stay informed by subscribing to the Rebuild Kerr
newsletter at:

These updates help residents, donors, partners, and supporters remain informed and
connected to the ongoing recovery process.

Welcome Home: Stories of Recovery

An important part of the recovery effort is the Welcome Home series, which shares the
stories of individuals and families who are returning home and moving forward after the
disaster.

These recoveries were funded by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and
made possible through the work of nonprofit partners, local disaster case managers,
donors, volunteers, and caring neighbors. Each story demonstrates that recovery does not
happen alone. Instead, it is achieved through resilience, partnership, and the
determination of a community committed to bringing people home.

The response to the July 2025 flooding in Kerr County demonstrates the power of collective
action and community support. From the rapid establishment of the Kerr County Flood
Relief Fund to the ongoing work of Rebuild Kerr, donors, nonprofit organizations,
volunteers, and local partners have united around a common goal: helping the community
recover and build a stronger future. The progress achieved to date reflects both the
generosity of supporters and the resilience of the people of Kerr County.
