JWHS, the children’s home managed by Expanding Opportunities is “green” and works toward sustainability. The trees that were planted at its beginning in 2001, are now able to be sustainably branch harvested for firewood!. Bring on the OVEN! After a bit of time, study and collaboration, a cob oven was built. The mud and sand being dug from the property, the fires brick had to be purchased but the rest was fun and mud pies! After the long days of waiting for it to dry we invited the children from another home and had a HUGE PIZZA PARTY!! Each child built their own pizza and then shared with each other. After the pizza was done in went the Zucchini bread and yeast rolls for the next day.
This is a wonderful addition to the children’s home! Now fresh bread can be baked at least once per week. A grill was added to the side making it possible for the cook to simmer the Githeri without having to constantly bend over the fire. And to enjoy marshmallow after!
Every one is so happy that this very low cost and fun group activity to build. The oven is now part of the JWHS family.
