Today, Karitas Relief Mission held a meeting to review the progress of our malaria prevention activities and the continuing needs of families in the communities we serve. The meeting focused particularly on the growing demand for mosquito nets and the importance of ensuring that vulnerable families are protected from malaria.
Growing Need for Mosquito Nets
During today’s meeting, community members reported that the number of people needing mosquito nets continues to increase. As more families and vulnerable individuals are identified, the original number of mosquito nets planned for distribution is no longer sufficient.
The increasing demand has therefore required us to review and increase the amount of money originally budgeted for mosquito nets. This adjustment is necessary because the actual need in the communities has grown beyond our initial estimate.
The situation demonstrates that malaria prevention remains an urgent need. Families who do not have adequate mosquito nets remain exposed to mosquito bites, particularly children and other vulnerable members of the household.
Meeting Outcomes
The meeting agreed that Karitas Relief Mission should:
- Continue identifying families and individuals who are without mosquito nets.
- Update the number of mosquito nets required based on the current community assessment.
- Increase the project budget to reflect the growing demand.
- Continue educating families about malaria prevention and proper use of mosquito nets.
- Prioritize the most vulnerable households as additional resources become available.
- Continue mobilizing supporters and partners to help meet the increased need.
Conclusion
Today’s meeting made it clear that the malaria prevention challenge is greater than originally anticipated. The increasing number of people requesting mosquito nets is the main reason we have had to revise and increase the amount initially budgeted for this activity.
Karitas Relief Mission remains committed to protecting village families from malaria. We appeal to our supporters and partners to stand with these communities so that the growing demand for mosquito nets can be met and more families can sleep safely under mosquito nets.
