Children of beggars need not beg. We help them escape poverty by providing them world class education along with free food and transportation.
Poverty is the biggest enemy of education. People living in poverty often stop going to school so that they can work, this leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills. Their children, in turn, are in a similar situation, with little income and fewer options but to leave school and work. Beggars and rag-pickers are at the lowest rung of society and have no chance of seeing their children educated, thus perpetuating the vicious cycle of poverty.
Utkarsha Learning Center (ULC) is an education initiative of Mahesh Foundation that started operations in June 2018. In the first year alone Utkarsha has enrolled around 50 underprivileged and medically challenged children. These children are attending school from grade 1 to grade 5. All the children at Utkarsha are first generation learners. By providing quality education to them, we empower them to make a life better than their parents.
The children who would have ended up begging would become contributing citizens of the society. The skills learnt at Utkarsha will boost their confidence and make them role models for the other similarly placed children. We have the capacity to induct 300 children and would enable 300 families to escape poverty.
