Change a Girl's Life Through Microentrepreneurship

This past months has really being quite a tough and challenging month for some of the girls and a lot of new experiences. The beginning of the year is mostly like this because people spent a lot during the festive season and turns to reduce their purchasing power at the beginning of the year. Businesses were not stable and about 10% of the girls who deals with perishable food items faced a lot of challenges. We had series of complains during follow up and we decided to organize a training sessions for some of the girls we could get in touch with. The objectives of these training session where to ensure that the girls have a good marketing strategy for their businesses and also building customer retention so as to stay in business no matter the circumstances.

One of the girls by name Eucharia who was internally displaced from Nso, a community in the Northwest Region of Cameroon and now residing in Mudeka, a single mother of two. She has really been push full through-out this season. She took it upon herself to go extra mile just to see that her business succeeds.

Eucharia was identified by Reach Out during a community outreach event, of which she was selected, trained, and provided with expansion capital. Eucharia had always had a keen interest in ladies' fashion shoes and underwear, and she established a shop in Mudeka Market where she sells pants and breastwear. During this period she expanded her product range to include various slippers for men, women, and children. Despite these challenges, in this season she remains optimistic about her business's future. She invested in seasonal slippers, which help her stay ahead of the competition and attract more customers to her store.

Thanks to her dedication and commitment to providing quality products, Eucharia is improving her business and establishing a strong presence in the market. She has been able to develop a strong marketing strategy to keep her business in line. She also has four plots of land of which she is doing SMART agriculture based on the training she received from REACH OUT. She is so determine to succeed.

Thanks to GlobalGiving, the Keep a Girl Alive program is creating positive impact in so many communities in the South West, Littoral and North West Regions of Cameroon.

Being a victim of the Anglophone crisis in Mautu, she just couldn’t stay on her own but struggled to survive by starting a small business selling Koki groundnut along the streets of Muyuka. Her main aim was to survive but with limited capital, Margaret’s business couldn’t survive because she has to feed herself and family from still that small business.

Hope came when she received the financial support from Reach Out Cameroon, she happens to be among the women who were identified in the community and supported with a grant of 171,600 FRS which is approximately $303 for a period of six months. With the cash at hand she has been able to scaled up her business. The joy she expressed on her face on the day of disbursement was indescribable. It brought her a sense of belonging knowing she can start all over again and make life meaningful for her and her family. 

Thanks to the empowerment on entrepreneurship and business management she received through Reach Out Cameroon, she now sells in four different markets in Muyuka as before.  With her dedication to the business she was able to save up and purchased a piece of land. Today Margaret now cultivates on that land both for commercial and home consumption purposes.
