Families Keep Learning and Growing in the JUCONI Environments

Christmas Activities
Christmas Activities

The main activities that took place during the months of November, December and January, were centered on schools, workshops of social economy for women from the communities, and the work with girls, boys, and adolescents who attend the JUCONI Environments.

In December there was a special holiday for Christmas, where girls and boys elaborated piñatas and enjoyed a special meal and celebration with their families. There was also the closing stage of the intervention Dad Guess What I Learned Today... where families living in the communities connected with their relatives living as migrants in the United States through a virtual call, they ate together and the caregivers living abroad contributed by providing cake for their children on that special occasion. This activity, as well as the previous ones form this intervention, created a positive moment and strengthened the relationship between the family staying in the rural community and the caregiver living in the U.S.

The project of social economy involving women from the community continued during these months and there were meetings for the evaluation, revision, and improvement of the program. This has provided since the beginning an opportunity for women to become more empowered and learn how to develop a business that allows them to satisfy their needs. Further steps and planning for 2023 was also discussed and put into concrete action plans.

To jumpstart 2023, JUCONI also started with the implementation of new workshops for girls, boys, and adolescents, covering topics such as management of emotions, activities with films, reading, and chess, with the goal of promoting safe spaces where they can express themselves freely and keep growing as individuals.
