Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp: 4th Quarter & Annual R

As we close the inaugural year of the Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp, we reflect on a journey marked by resilience, community transformation, and the unwavering spirit of our girls. This fourth quarter has been a period of consolidation, celebration, and strategic planning for 2026. Our mission—to empower rural girls in Nyamira County with the skills to defy early marriage, FGM, and school dropout—has taken deep root, evolving from a pilot with 4 girls in Q1 to a movement directly touching over 100 lives and indirectly influencing thousands. Despite a persistent funding gap, our model of mentorship, peer-led Jasiri Clubs, and community advocacy has proven sustainable and impactful.

Achievements (October - December 2025)

Program Completion & Graduation:
- Successfully conducted the final leadership module and closing ceremony for our first full-year cohort of 26 directly mentored girls. Each graduate received a certificate and developed a personal "Future Action Plan."
- Total Annual Reach: 26 direct mentees, 148 active Jasiri Club members across 5 schools, and over 3,500 community members engaged via dialogues and media.
Strengthened Sustainability of Jasiri Clubs:
- Launched the "Jasiri Club Toolkit"—a facilitator’s guide with session plans, activities, and monitoring forms—ensuring consistency and peer-led continuity in all five schools.
- Conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop for 10 peer mentors (selected from the original mentees), equipping them to lead club sessions independently in 2026.
High-Impact Advocacy & Partnerships:
- Partnered with the County Department of Gender to host a "Day of the Girl" symposium, featuring our girls as panelists. The event was attended by over 150 stakeholders, including county officials, NGO representatives, and media.
- Secured a pro-bono partnership with a local tech hub to provide quarterly digital literacy workshops for our girls in 2026.
Fundraising & Resource Mobilization:
- Successfully closed the year by securing an additional $5,300 through targeted grant proposals and an end-of-year local fundraiser.
- Annual Funding Total: $10,800 raised against a $25,000 goal. While a gap remains, these funds have been strategically allocated to ensure core program survival and seed 2026 activities.

Challenges

Unmet Funding Goal: The $14,200 gap remains our primary constraint, delaying the scale-up to reach the initial target of 150 direct beneficiaries and limiting the provision of material support (e.g., scholarships, sanitary kits) to girls.
Systemic Barriers: While community attitudes are shifting, economic poverty and deeply ingrained cultural norms continue to be the underlying drivers of FGM and early marriage, requiring longer-term, multi-sectoral interventions.
Transition Management: Ensuring a smooth handover of Jasiri Club leadership to the newly trained peer mentors requires careful ongoing support and monitoring.

3rd Quarter Report

Introduction
The Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp has continued to grow as a transformative program dedicated to empowering rural girls in Nyamira County with leadership, critical thinking, and life skills to counter early marriages, female genital mutilation (FGM), and high school dropout rates. The third quarter emphasized program consolidation, deeper community ownership, and stronger advocacy for girls’ rights. Despite persistent funding constraints, we have maintained steady progress and inspired broader engagement from schools, parents, and local leaders.

Achievements
During the third quarter, the program realized the following milestones:

Expanded Mentorship: An additional 10 girls joined the program, bringing the total number of mentored girls to 26. These participants have been engaged in structured mentorship sessions on leadership, problem-solving, and advocacy.
Jasiri Clubs Growth: Three new Jasiri Clubs were successfully launched in local secondary schools, raising the total to five clubs with 78 active members. Peer-led forums have become platforms where girls share experiences, challenge cultural norms, and reinforce the value of education.
Community Dialogues: Two more community meetings were held with parents, teachers, and local administrators. Over 70 community members participated, with increasing openness from fathers and religious leaders to support the initiative.
SRHR and Life Skills Training: Facilitated workshops on menstrual health management, early pregnancy prevention, and digital literacy to broaden girls’ access to 21st-century opportunities.
Media Engagement: Collaborated with a local radio station to air a one-hour segment on girls’ education and rights, reaching an estimated 3,000 listeners across the county.

Challenges

Funding Deficit: With only $4,200 raised this quarter, the program still faces a significant shortfall against its $25,000 annual goal. This continues to limit scaling to the intended 150 beneficiaries.
Sustainability Concerns: As Jasiri Clubs expand, the demand for materials, facilitators, and monitoring support has outpaced available resources.
Cultural Pushback: Though attitudes are shifting, some segments of the community remain resistant, particularly around openly confronting FGM practices.

Impact
The program has now reached 26 directly mentored girls and over 100 students indirectly through Jasiri Clubs. Participants are demonstrating improved confidence, assertiveness, and leadership skills. Teachers report reduced absenteeism among club members, while some parents who initially opposed the program are now advocating for girls to remain in school. The radio program also sparked countywide conversations, giving the initiative visibility beyond Nyamira.

Next Steps

Strategic Fundraising: Intensify outreach to international donors and CSR partners to bridge the remaining $16,800 funding gap.
Strengthen Jasiri Clubs: Develop structured club toolkits and training-of-trainers (TOT) sessions to empower peer mentors and ensure sustainability.
Broaden Community Buy-in: Convene quarterly “Champions for Girls” forums bringing together supportive local leaders, parents, and role models.
Monitoring and Documentation: Launch a simple digital tracking system to capture attendance, retention, and impact stories from all participating schools.

Conclusion
The third quarter has shown that with resilience and community partnership, Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp continues to be a catalyst for change. From 4 girls in Q1 to 26 in Q3, the program is steadily growing its reach and influence. With enhanced support and funding, Jasiri is poised to scale its impact, safeguard girls’ education, and nurture a generation of empowered young women leading change in Nyamira County.

2nd Quarter Report

Introduction
The Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp continues its mission to empower 150 girls from rural Nyamira County, Kenya, with leadership, critical thinking, and 21st-century skills to combat high school dropout rates, early marriages, and female genital mutilation (FGM). In the second quarter, we focused on expanding our reach, strengthening community engagement, and building on the foundation established in the first quarter. Despite ongoing funding challenges, the program has made meaningful progress toward its goals.

Achievements
In the second quarter, the program achieved the following:

Increased Participation: With an additional $3,500 raised through local fundraising and small grants, we expanded the program to mentor 12 more girls, bringing the total to 16 participants.
Workshops Conducted: The new cohort participated in interactive workshops focusing on:
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Girls developed skills to address personal and community challenges creatively.
- Effective Communication and Leadership: Training emphasized advocacy and public speaking to foster leadership confidence.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): Sessions equipped girls with knowledge to make informed health decisions and advocate against harmful practices like FGM.
Jasiri Clubs Initiation: The initial four girls mentored in Q1 successfully established Jasiri Clubs in two local schools, engaging 30 additional students in peer-led discussions on gender equality and education.
Counseling Support: Group and individual counseling sessions continued, addressing emotional and societal barriers, with a focus on building resilience against cultural pressures.
Community Outreach: Conducted two community awareness meetings with local leaders and parents, reaching 50 community members to address resistance to girls’ education and harmful practices like FGM and early marriage.

Challenges

Funding Shortages: Despite raising $3,500 locally, the program still faces a significant funding gap, limiting our ability to reach the target of 150 girls.
Cultural Resistance: Some community members remain hesitant to support the program due to deeply rooted cultural norms favoring early marriage and FGM.
Resource Constraints: Limited access to materials, transportation, and facilities hindered the expansion of workshops to additional schools.

Impact
The 16 girls mentored so far have shown remarkable growth in confidence, leadership, and advocacy skills. The establishment of Jasiri Clubs has created a ripple effect, with club members inspiring their peers to prioritize education and challenge harmful cultural practices. Feedback from participants indicates improved self-esteem and a stronger commitment to staying in school. The community outreach efforts have begun to shift perceptions, with some parents expressing support for girls’ education after attending awareness meetings.

Next Steps

Fundraising Initiatives: Continue seeking partnerships with local and international donors to secure the remaining $20,500 needed to meet the $25,000 goal.
Expand Jasiri Clubs: Support the formation of Jasiri Clubs in three additional schools to broaden peer support networks.
Enhanced Community Engagement: Organize quarterly community forums to further address cultural barriers and involve more stakeholders in promoting gender equality.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement a feedback system to track the progress of mentored girls and the impact of Jasiri Clubs on school retention rates.

Conclusion
The second quarter of the Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp has marked significant progress in empowering young girls in Nyamira County. The expansion to 16 participants and the establishment of Jasiri Clubs demonstrate the program’s potential to create sustainable change. With continued support, we are confident in scaling the program to reach more girls, reduce school dropout rates, and foster a generation of empowered female leaders in Nyamira County.
