Jasiri Teen Girls Bootcamp will train 150 girls from rural Nyamira County with hands-on skills in leadership and 21st-century skills. The program will include interactive workshops on critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, leadership, SRHR, mentorship, and counseling programs. We aim to combat the high school dropout rates, early marriages, and FGM, the girls will receive certificates upon completion and head the Jasiri clubs at their local schools for sustainability.
Women and girls in Nyamira County face unimaginable obstacles to accessing basic education. These factors include early/forced marriages, FGM, poor menstrual hygiene, and cultural norms. Despite efforts for successful school transition, many young girls drop out of school due to these challenges which are exacerbated by priority given to boys' education. The lack of reliable counsellors, menstrual products, and clean water further widens the gender gap, leaving far fewer girls in school.
Mentorship is essential for girls' personal growth and resilience, providing them with guidance, leadership skills, and SRHR education. This project will prepare 150 girls to overcome challenges like early marriage, FGM, and school dropout by fostering self-confidence, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Through Jasiri Clubs in local schools, the girls will have ongoing peer support and advocacy networks, ensuring sustainable change and promoting gender equality in their local communities.
The long-term impact of this project is the empowerment of teen girls in Nyamira County to challenge gender inequalities. Equipped with leadership skills and SRHR knowledge, they will lead the campaign to combat early marriage, FGM, and school dropout. Jasiri Clubs in schools will foster peer support and advocacy, to promote girls' education and gender equality. This initiative will reduce dropout rates and inspire future generations, thus creating a lasting impact in their communities.
