IsraAID High School Student workshop -Hilton Tokyo

Overview

In 2014 IsraAID is building its plan for the new year following its 2013 activity.

These activities include: intensive vocational trainings in partnership with Hilton Tokyo, group building activities for High school students in Watari, leadership training for High school students from Futaba- Machi, a town evacuated from Fukushima radiation zone, and a community event for in partnership with the staff of Hilton Tokyo.

The activities aim to provide the youth of Tohoku with practical skills for their future including communication skills, service skills, and presentation skills, and a new sense of community.

Summary of activities:

Watari leadership group:

In January, 14 Watari High School students attended a week long training in Hilton Tokyo. The students all learned different aspects of the hotel, from cooking to speaking to customers, to marketing. The students all received a certificate of their training.

IsraAID in partnership with the city of Watari and Watari High school conducted intensive leadership trainings on a monthly basis. 14 participants are attending these activities regularly, and the content include: Group building activities, Presentation skills, Communication skills and social responsibility.

Futaba Machi High school

The students of Futaba Machi High School will attend a week long training at the Hilton Tokyo in their upcoming Summer Vacation. The training is provided in join partnership with ADRA Japan.

The trainings provide invaluable skills for the students, bringing one student to decide his future career will be as a Chef.

The student spoke at the IsraAID event in commemoration of three years since the Tsunami. Speaking at the event was a prime example of the valuable skills learned in the training, not only career wise but in the ability to communicate eloquently with an audience of over 150 people.

Youth leadership project- summary of activities 2013

Overview

In 2013, IsraAID conducted youth leadership workshops, community events and stress relief activities for more then 2000 people in Tohoku area.

These activities include: intensive vocational trainings in partnership with Hilton Tokyo, group building activities for High school students in Watari, Cooking and leadership training for members of Kagikakko- a youth cafe in Ishinomaki, High school stiudents from Futaba- Machi, a town evacuated from Fukushima radiation zone, and a big BBQ community event for 2000 of Ishinomaki residents in partnership with the staff of Hilton Tokyo.

Through its activities, IsraAID were able to provide the youth with practical skills such as: cooking, marketing, presentation skills and communication skills.

Since April 2013, IsraAID in partnership with the city of Watari and Watari High school conducted intensive leadership trainings on a monthly basis. 14 participants are attending these activities regularly, and the content include: Group building activities, Presentation skills, Communication skills and social responsibility.

In 2014, IsraAID will continue to provide support for Watari High school students, on coming January the students will attend Hilton & IsraAID hospitality and leadership training in Hilton Tokyo.

Kagikakko- a youth community cafe in Ishinomaki

Since June 2013, IsraAID in partnership with Nippon Foundation and Hilton Tokyo,provided 30 high school students in Ishinomaki with intensive trainings in the field of Hospitality, cooking and communication skills. In last August 15 members of the community cafe attended Hilton & IsraAID leadership training- a one week intensive seminar in Hilton Tokyo. On October 27th, IsraAID and Hilton staff conducted a community BBQ festival in Ishinomaki, 2000 residents attended the event that was conducted in partnership with Kagikakko cafe members.

Futaba Machi High school

Since January 2013, IsraAID in partnership with Adra Japan, has provided students with intensive leadership training. The activities included: Presentation skills, Hospitality training and planning a community event (to be conducted in Mid January 2014).

Summary of activities May-August 2013

Overview:

Since May 2013, IsraAID in partnership with Hilton Tokyo, conducted several workshops and activities for high school students in Tohoku region.

These activities include:

3 intensive leadership workshops for 14 high school students from Watari.
6 days training in Hospitality and communication skills for 13 high school students from Fukushima and Ishinoamki in partnership with Hilton Tokyo.
Meetings with local coordinators and planning of a community event in Ishinomaki on coming October.
Meetings with new communities in Fukushima and Introduction of IsraAID leadership and skills model.

Workshops:

In Watari, IsraAID youth group is becoming energetic and motivated about the leadership project.

The 3 workshops conducted so far was focused on Presentation skills, Creative thinking and group building activities. Both teachers and students mentioned this is the first time they are able to express themselves freely and they are looking forward for the next session in September and for the Hospitality training in January.

Hospitality

During the first week of August, a group of 13 students from Ishinomaki community Cafe- Kagikakko, and 2 students from Futaba-Shoyo, a high school of youth evacuated from Fukushima radiation area, participated in the 3rd leadership & skills session conducted by IsraAID and Hilton Tokyo.

The students learned practical communication skills such as English, Body Language and Emotional expression, while receiving intensive job training in cooking, marketing, house keeping and Hospitality.

The training was a great success and the students expressed their appreciation and gratitude to IsraAID and Hilton staff.

The students felt very satisfied mostly because they learned practical skills that will support their daily work in the community cafe in Ishinomaki.
