In Pakchén, a small community in Campeche, five women beekeepers did something that just a few years ago would have seemed impossible: they welcomed 15 visitors from the city, confidently guided them through their meliponary, shared the story of their community, cooked for them, and sold every single one of their products. All in one day.
This was no coincidence. It was the result of a training process that, thanks to the support of people like you, is transforming the lives of indigenous women in southeastern Mexico.
The women didn't arrive at this moment overnight. Their community tourism proposal was built from what they already knew and what they wanted to recover: achiote, a plant that had stopped being grown in their community and that they are planting again because it blooms twice a year, guaranteeing food for their melipona bees. A cultural rescue that is also a productive strategy.
In front of biologists, teachers, nurses, engineers, and an archaeologist who had traveled from Mérida, they explained with precision and pride the biology of the bees, the care of the meliponary, and that special bond between achiote and honey. Afterward, they sat their guests down to eat traditional cochinita pibil with handmade tortillas. And at the end, they presented their soaps, shampoos, and creams — every item sold out.
The visitors left with full hands and hearts, showering the women with praise for their organization, their knowledge, and their hospitality. For them, those words are worth as much as any sale.
This is the impact of your donation: women who are not just producing — they are leading, teaching, and opening the doors of their world to the rest of us.
