Mujeres Indigenas Mujeres Empresarias - 1st Report of Results

By Haydee Reyes | Project Coordinator

Educampo, the Mexican Foundation for Rural Development (Fundación Mexicana para el Desarrollo Rural A.C.) uses its resources so that poor, rural families can take their place in Mexico’s development, and achieve a quality of life that is dignified, independent and sustainable.

Specifically, the family welfare program of Hands of Rural and Indigenous Women: For the Advancement of Women / "Turn Indigenous Women into Women Entrepreneurs" has overseen the development processes of rural indigenous women in different states and regions of Mexico: 65 women in the Oaxaca Coast region, 51 women in southern Yucatan and 77 women in Campeche state. They have been given education and support in areas such as gender studies, nutrition, and organizational, production, commercial and administrative aspects, all for the purpose of helping them increase their earnings obtained from their productive activity. (ecological production and processing of Hibiscus flower, baking, corn tostadas and textile production)

The life experience processes involved in creating their microenterprise show the women that are capable of doing things that they never imagined being able to do before, such as speaking in public, leaving their community unaccompanied, traveling to other states to sell their products, creating invoices (using the computer), opening a bank account, and negotiating with suppliers. In other words, the growth and development of these women is ignited by the experiences they gain through developing their economic activity.

Your donation makes this possible! Thank you!

With great pride we share the results obtained in the recent months of work, thanks to your donation and support of this project:
