The project objective is to challenge the problem of socio-political-ethnic violence which has become more entrenched among the youth in Ghana as a result of social process. It is to prevent and counter narratives by providing platforms of discussion through an interfaith/socio-cultural exchange platform strategies on the essence of peace and security for development in the selected communities to educate, sensitize, train and empower the youth in rural/urban communities.
Ghana is made up of multiple ethnic groups that are often susceptible to malign ethno-religious and political cleavages (Aning & Abdallah 2013). Membership of youthful movements are driven first and foremost by individual monetary and other political interests, these constitute a source of tension and violence in Ghana. The Binduri District is not exempted from the aforementioned factors where clashes between tribe & political parties has been recorded leading to deaths and injuries for .
1.To educate and sensitize identified youthful groups on socio-cultural and political violence to build trust and partnership among the youth in the communities selected; 2. ToUndertake a capacity building training for youth leaders on issues concerning violent extremism; 3.To Conduct project orientation workshop with district assemblies and communities leaders and hold share and learn meeting; and 4. To Set- up task groups from the youth to organize recreation and sports programs.
a) Increase knowledge and skills among 160 youth on on issues relating to violent extremism would be enhanced; b) Increased awareness of 300 youth on prevention and countering violent extremism; c) Platforms created for stakeholders (youth leaderships) to share and learn their experiences on project;and d) To serve as an early warning system.
