Kenya Voluntary Development Association (KVDA), founded in 1962 has for many years deployed national and international volunteers to enhance community development with remarkable outputs.
KVDA is committed to supporting the local community and from the submission of the previous report, we managed to deploy 15 national and international volunteers to Ebukobelo Primary School located in Vihiga country in Western Kenya from Kenya, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Japan.
They volunteered at the project for the duration ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months with focus on education, empowerment and capacity building to enhance sustainable development.
The local community worked together with the volunteers on activities ranging from teaching, sports, agriculture, tree planting, environmental conservation and care for children, the elderly and the vulnerable members of the society.
The need for sustainable water sources remain a major challenge in the Emmabwi community and KVDA efforts to enhance the program has encountered headwinds as we have not managed to receive any donation to support this cause on the GlobalGiving platform despite our appeal appearing on the GlobalGiving platform and this is something that we cannot understand and it is either that our appeal is not attractive or the people who access it have not dedicated themselves to render support to our needy cause.
This is despite the fact that KVDA is affiliated to several local and international volunteer networks and organizations that would have acted as the multiplier effect that would spring into solid financial resources.
Our concern is that we have managed to raise a paltry USD 36 against a target of USD 39805 and this is worrying as it seems our mission is grounded and if this was an examination candidate, it will be rated a spectacular failure and KVDA would not like to be ranked as a failure in its efforts to rally the support of the international community to support the worthy cause.
As we file this report, KVDA calls upon potential donors, friends, volunteer Alumni, wellwishers and potential project benefactors to come out in large numbers to support our fund raising initiative that is intended to enhance capacities and this cannot be achieved without the community of efforts.
KVDA appeals to GlobalGiving fraternity to sustain the momentum through the platform aware that there are several competing projects that require funding and the project proposed by KVDA is not an exception.
It is our hope that through this report and appeal, we will manage to raise the required funds to enhance the capacity of this project.
KVDA plans to host a bilateral workcamp at Ebukobelo Primary School scheduled from 14th to 24th September 2026 and this will bring together 10 Japanese and 7 Kenyan volunteers who will work alongside the school children and the entire community on a program that would enhance international solidarity and sustainable development.
Thanks to the community of efforts through GlobalGiving, we passionately appeals to you to come to the rescue of the villagers who have to contend with lack of water resources that negatively impacts on livelihoods as the fact that water is life cannot be disputed as this is the engine of sustainable development.
The community members access to clean water for domestic use is important and the funds requested will be utilized to achieve the overall project goals.
It is important to note that the national and international volunteers mobilized by KVDA in collaboration with partner organizations, is an important step to build human capital that would catapult the community to greater heights of prosperity as there cannot be development without the people playing the pivotal role that is profound in the process.
The volunteers bring with them skills, knowledge, experience and passion for community work minus the material component that the appeal for financial support is buttressed in order to supplement the good work accomplished by the volunteers.
"Development against Dependence", the maxim of KVDA is build on the commitment to enable the local community members to be the drivers of their own development.
