The project "Empowering Flood-Affected Indigenous Communities: Socio-Economic Resilience in Umerkot, Sindh" aims to improve the livelihoods of indigenous groups severely impacted by recurring floods. These vulnerable communities, already facing socio-economic challenges, will benefit from sustainable income opportunities and enhanced resilience to future disasters. The project will focus on vocational training in trades like handicrafts and tailoring, and provide agricultural inputs.
The problem faced by the indigenous communities in Umerkot, Sindh, is the severe socio-economic impact caused by recurring floods. These floods not only destroy homes and infrastructure but also wipe out livelihoods, leaving communities in a state of prolonged vulnerability. The indigenous population, already marginalized and lacking access to essential services, faces heightened risks of poverty, food insecurity, and unemployment.
This project will address the problem by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening community resilience through vocational training, agricultural support, and infrastructure rehabilitation. By equipping indigenous communities with practical skills in trades like handicrafts and tailoring, and providing agricultural inputs such as seeds and tools, the project will help them restore their livelihoods. Cash-for-work initiatives will rebuild critical infrastructure, improving.
The project will create lasting socio-economic resilience by empowering indigenous communities with sustainable livelihoods,100 women reducing their dependency on aid, and building disaster-resistant infrastructure. Over time, this will foster self-reliance, improve food security, and enhance community preparedness for future climate shocks, ensuring long-term stability and economic growth.
