The main aim of the project is to build capacity of school stakeholders (school management committee, teachers, parents) and improve health and sanitation in Namdu Village of Dolakha district, where large damage occurred during April 2015 earthquake and level of sanitation is low. The project will be carried out in 8 schools and 2 Child Development Centers, so as to improve access to clean water, sanitation and better school environment for 1122 school students and wider community of 8096 people
Namdu Village in Dolakha is one of the earthquake affected villages and is remotely located. Due to lack of proper sitting arrangement in the temporary classrooms (built after the earthquake), small children do not desire to attend the class and those who attend, get sick. The schools also lack proper toilet and related water & sanitation facilities. This has affected education. The capacity of school stakeholders need to be strengthened for proper re-development of the school.
Orientation will be held for school management committee, parents, teachers and students on school environment improvement, water, sanitation and related issues. Long-term vision for the development of school will be developed. Drinking water tank, hand washing station will be constructed. Carpet will be laid on the floor and cushion provided for the students to sit. To develop their habit, sanitation kit bag (consisting of tooth brush, tooth paste, soap etc.) will be distributed to the students
School stakeholders (school management committee, teachers, parents) will become more conscious about the health and sanitation issues and will be capable to contribute towards the development of the school; Students will develop habit of good sanitation practices; Schools will have better water, sanitation and classroom facilities; Drop-out rate of school children will decrease as children will feel comfortable to come to school.
