The HimalayanLife team in Bharatpur, Chitwan, continues to organize and run girls-specific programs in various slum communities around the city. The number of girls that are beingv reached far exceeds the original goal of 150 - by now over 700 girls have been participating in the programs. These are girls at risk both with regard to domestic abuse and traficking, given the close proximity to the Imndian border. For many of the girls, pareticipation in the regular programs constitutes in fact the anchor that prevents them from dropping out of school or falling victim to child marriage, child labour or trafficking.
Impact story:
"I am Rekha (Name Changed for privacy) and I am 13 years old. I am a girl who regularly attend the children program of Himalayan Life Chitwan. My family and financial condition is extremely worse.
My father is a drunkard and my mother is also very sick, so it is difficult to go to school because of financial condition. Three children in my family have dropped out school. I also missed my final exam due to lack of money and I went to work at other people's home to earn money. But I wanted to read so much that I was so much worried. I told many people that I wanted to read but no one cared so, I became more and more depressed. Then the last option and hope was to tell HLC organization. When I told my problems, sir/ma'am gave me encourage. After 15 days, they went to my school and talked to the principal then I joined school again and bought all the educational materials as needed.
Now, I am constantly going to school and working very hard in my studies. I want to be a good and quality citizen of this country by studying a lot. Finally, I would like to thank Himalayan Life Chitwan for support. "
