After one year following Hurricane Milton, many families within communities continued to navigate the quiet aftermath of displacement, damaged homes, and limited access to traditional recovery support. For some, the floodwaters had receded, but the barriers to stability remained — insurance claims were denied, FEMA assistance was unavailable, and county resources had been exhausted.

Through this final phase of outreach, Unity in Disasters, Inc. was able to walk alongside 15 displaced families who were facing critical housing insecurity. Grant funding provided direct assistance for utilities, temporary rental support, and relocation needs — helping households maintain shelter during an otherwise uncertain transition period.

An additional 25 families received essential household items needed to safely relocate and reestablish daily routines. From bedding and hygiene supplies to basic home necessities, these items offered a sense of normalcy and dignity during a time of upheaval.

At the same time, 16 families began receiving support for urgent home repairs to address storm-related damage that continued to make their residences unsafe or unlivable. These interventions allowed vulnerable homeowners to begin restoring their living spaces without incurring unmanageable financial burden.

Despite these gains, 20 more families remain under active case management with no FEMA assistance, flood insurance coverage, or county support, underscoring the ongoing need for localized, community-based recovery efforts.

All final outreach and assistance activities took place within a three-mile geographic radius of the impacted community — ensuring that aid was directed toward those most deeply affected and often overlooked in broader recovery systems.
