FIRST PROJECT #64219  REPORT TO GLOBALGIVING  BY  ENVIRONMENT AWARE AND RESTORATION NETWORK  (EARN)

Since 2008, Professor Sylvester Egwu,CEO/FOUNDER, Environment Aware And Restoration Network has been a fervent advocate for sustainable environment and development in Nigeria.

We in EARN joined the esteemed GlobalGiving community in May 2024 and have focused on raising  awareness about our cause- project # 64219 POTABLE WATER  SUPPLY TO OIL SPILL VICTIMS in Nigeria Niger Delta region.

Out efforts have attracted the attention of United States Texas A&M University volunteer students group who have formed a solidarity force-Delta Force NG to raise more awareness and globalize our cause to generate international attention, support and donations to start our project in key affected states of Rivers and Bayelsa  which have their drinking water  badly polluted, contaminated and rendered unsafe by oil pollution in the region.

Scarcity  of reliable, safe and  clean water  in Nigeria Niger Delta region is critical and daunting and not in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Water pollution by chemical pollutants of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and benzene is of the greatest concern because the most  significant endpoint of pollution is cancer.

Exposure to these chemical pollutants can cause cancer of the  breast, skin, bladder, liver, kidney ,reproductive organs, leaukemia etc.

Study predicts epidemic of cancer in Nigeria  Delta region by 2025

CLEAN  WATER SUPPLY IN THE REGION IS ONE OF THE  POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS to the looming epidemic.

The attached pictures of young women and girls fetching oily water for drinking and use depict dire need for clean water and a call for concern and actions by global community to support our cause.

We believe GlobalGiving can make this to happen.
