Currently, we are actively engaged in expanding our program to encompass more children and families in need. The demand for assistance in Tanzania is substantial, and the process of determining which families to support can be quite daunting. The prevalence of homelessness and street children underscores the urgency of our mission, albeit at times overwhelming.

To propel our initiatives forward, our most pressing need is to acquire a small yet efficient brickmaking machine. With adequate funding for this essential tool, we will be able to procure the necessary raw materials and commence brick production. This marks the crucial first step towards tangible progress in helping children get permanent homes and stability.

Wheels of Compassion: Homes in Tanzania

Project Report: Wheels of Compassion - Homes in Tanzania

Project Overview:

The "Wheels of Compassion" initiative aims to provide shelter and hope to impoverished families in Tanzania. While we haven't yet secured enough funds to begin constructing homes, we have taken a crucial step towards our mission by acquiring a Toyota Fortuna. This vehicle will serve as a vital tool for transporting building supplies and ensuring children's access to education and activities.

Recipient Profile:

Our first identified beneficiary is Mariam, a widowed mother of four. Tragically, two of her adult children are missing, driven away by the harsh grip of poverty. Mariam currently resides with her two youngest children in a dilapidated mud house, the land for which was purchased by her late father. The existing structure is in a state of disrepair, posing severe health risks due to bacteria, mold, infestations of spiders and bugs, and possible snakes. The living conditions are deplorable, with the children forced to sleep on the dirty floor.

Immediate Needs:

Safe Shelter: The immediate goal is to raise funds for the construction of a new, secure home for Mariam and her two young children. The existing structure is hazardous and unfit for habitation.
Basic Amenities: Once the funds are secured, the project will focus on providing Mariam's family with essential amenities, ensuring a dignified and healthy living environment.

Accomplishments:

While the primary goal of constructing houses remains pending due to financial constraints, the successful acquisition of the Toyota Fortuna is a significant achievement. This vehicle will expedite the transportation of materials and people to the building site and facilitate the mobility of children to school and other essential activities.

Financial Status:

Although the NGO is currently indebted for the car, we are confident that with the support of generous donors, we will swiftly pay off the loan. This will enable us to redirect resources towards building homes for families like Mariam's.

Transforming Lives: Opening a Brick Factory

Children on the edge of homelessness

Our nonprofit organization, Wow Tanzania, aims to construct a new residence for Mariam and her two children, who are currently living in a deteriorated mud house that is infested with mold, dampness, and darkness. These living conditions pose a significant threat to their health, particularly during heavy rainfall when the house floods. Additionally, the children are forced to sleep on the dirty floor, which is shared by spiders, various insects, and possibly even snakes! Recognizing the urgency of this situation, we have embarked on a fundraising campaign to finance the construction of a safer and more suitable dwelling for Mariam and her children. However, through our efforts to address this specific case, we have come to realize that the problem extends beyond Mariam's family. Many widows with dependent children live in unsafe, unhealthy, and deplorable conditions in Tanzania, and are facing the imminent risk of eviction due to their inability to pay rent. We have provided housing and rent assistance for two families for the upcoming year, but it is important to note that this is not a long-term solution to their ongoing precarity. In light of this, we have expanded our mission to include the creation of affordable housing solutions for all these vulnerable members of the community. To achieve this, we have decided to establish a brick factory that will produce clean and safe building materials at minimal cost, or even free of charge, to those in need. Even though we have yet to reach our fundraising goal for Mariam's house, we intend to commence the process of raising money to open a brick company this month. By doing so, we hope to pave the way for providing housing not only to widows and orphans but also to other families in similar circumstances. Our ultimate goal is to help these individuals regain stability in their lives and create a better future for their children and the community as a whole. In conclusion, the urgent need to provide Mariam and her children with an improved living environment has prompted us to broaden our efforts to address the larger housing crisis faced by widows and orphans in Arusha, Tanzania. Through the establishment of a brick factory, we aim to offer affordable and safe building materials to those living on the edge of homelessness. By supporting our cause to build clean and safe houses, donors can contribute to the transformation of the lives of the most marginalized members of our community and provide them with the security and stability they deserve.
